ISU fans, coaches, and players are not immune to culpability here. If anyone here says so, then take off your redbird glasses and blinders. So you don't like GM, big deal. Shox fans won't blink an eye over that or lose any sleep. As long as we don't have a coach who is getting DUI's, soliciting prostitutes, implementing recruiting and academic fraud and not committing any other illegal activity he's good to go.

People have grown to become too sensitive and think skinned. Some also lack the wherewithal to understand the context of a situation and that emotions run high on both ends. The creator of this thread oozes sour grapes and might I add, eyewitness testimony is the least reliable and least credible evidence in a court of law. Especially when it comes from an individual(s) who are partial to the home team.

Is GM a choir boy? Nope, and I'm glad he isn't. We are glad to have a coach who wears his emotions on his sleeves, is competitive, will stand up for his players and staff and if at times displays warranted gamesmanship, then so be it.

It further proves the softness of the conference and its fans.
USA Today Coaches Top 25 Poll Conference Breakdown:

MVC: 1
WCC: 1
Atlantic Ten: 1
MWC: 1
Big East: 1

The Big East is Big Time.

There were clearly high emotions on both sides at the end of last night's game. Seems like the emotions are a lot more between the coaching staffs and fans than the actual players. Carmichael may have executed the 'kick', but beyond that I didn't see too much chippy or borderline dirty play by either team, although Carmichael did kind of 2-hand shove Hall before going up for that last infamous rebound. Maybe it was there the whole game, I would have to go back and look at the tape.

Arch Madness is going to be great.

This is mostly true. Fans only care because WSU is winning, but they are far from dominating. Needing a fluke play to hold a one game lead on first place is hardly what I call dominating. Even if they manage to hang on to win the MVC again, it will be the first time WSU has won back to back titles in 58 years. 58 years!!! We are only four years removed from Gregg finishing in the bottom half of the league and only five years removed from Gregg being a Thursday team in St Louis.

If you really want to see what dominating the league looks like, I urge you to take a look at what the Panthers did in 2010 or what SIU did in 2004&2005. The Panthers won the title by 3 games and SIU won it by 3 games and 5 games.

WSU was picked fourth this season and lost four starters from last years team and has had three starters out a portion of this year with still two out. Name one other team in this confrerence that could still be in first with what WSU has gone through.

Nothing like a little coach hate to bring the emotion to conference fan base. Gregg Marhall is to the MVC what Steve Spurrier is to SEC football....and it really brings out the passion.

Frankly both schools embarrassed the Missouri Valley Conference and 8 other schools last night. ISURed should be sanctioned in some manner of course but you are talking about fans here and not paid professionals and student-athletes. I chuckle every time when WSU fans attempt to defend Gregg for his many, many transgressions. They'll somehow equate it to being a hater because they are successful. For those that subscribe to that faulty line of thinking let me submit to you the following: Do similar situations happen with Doug McDermott? Nope. Did we hear the same things about Jacobson in 2009-2010? Of course not. When SIUC was successful with a couple of different coaches did we hear about misbehavior? Not a peep of it. So what does that tell you?

Everybody and I mean everybody in the Big South hated Marshall when he was at Winthrop. I encountered Duggar Baucom at a function a few years ago and asked him about Marshall. Most of what he said I won't repeat but let's say he was not a fan. And he only coached in the same league as Marshall for one season!

Last night was a real game changer for me personally. I don't think I can enjoy Valley basketball if it is going to become so thuggish and repugnant. I mean Kyle Weems did some things that made me uncomfortable but at least you knew he was a good kid overall. Certainly a coach in his 40s should be able to have more restraint, civility, and class and furthermore he imbues a "hoodlum" style upon his 18-23 year old charges. No place for it in the MVC. Both schools need to be sanctioned.

Two things:

1. No one involved is innocent. There is no moral high ground in this situation. This just happened to be a game where passions flared a little too hot, and some grudges came out of the woodwork. With the game ending like it did, you can find lots of places to throw blame.

2. This can only be good for the Valley. Having a little passion just adds more meanings to the games, and that is never a bad thing. Don't you feel that Illinois State fans will be rooting just as hard against Wichita State in Arch Madness as they would in favor of their own team? Frankly, stuff like this adds interest and makes people tune in. I don't like reality TV, but this stuff sells itself.

In a very superficial way I agree but there are quite a few differences. Spurrier was hated because he won big and I don't mean the college football equivalent of the NIT, no I mean many SEC titles and several MNC's. He was good looking and won a Heisman. People reviled him for that. He was accused of running up the score. And he did but that's the other coach's fault ultimately. He was surly with the media but he wasn't vile and didn't curse out opposing coaches and their assistants.

It is a flattering comparison to Marshall quite frankly. A guy that has won one NCAA Tournament game. He IS a good coach. He is. Absolutely. But that isn't why he is so derided by many of his colleagues. The man will be turning 50 soon and I think he will take a look in the mirror and act better. I really believe that. He certainly needs to.

I have heard from someone who deals with Marshall on a fairly regular basis that he is one of the most arrogant, narcissistic people you will ever meet. I think that plays a large part in what makes him such a great coach and as long as he is our narcissist, I couldn't care less.
