Wichita State vs UCONN game thread - 2pm today

Yes, its an unfortunate loss for WSU as well as for the Valley. I think the Shockers would have benefitted greatly from another game or two under their belts before having to take on U-Con. They were too tentative in the first half still trying to adjust. They may have been able to overcome the terrible calls which were pointed out by the ESPN announcers quite clearly and on replay, but the Shocks weren't yet ready to make the tough adjustments to that kind of adversity. I think they will only get better, particularly at the point position which was weak other than a great job by TM covering what is not his typical position.
Stutz was a disappointment this game. He looked like he regressed. Not sure why, but I think he just wasn't mentally ready for this type of game and competition.
Shocks should have won, but didn't, and now will have to try to make up for a lost opportunity. I wouldn't want to be any other team in the Valley this year. I do believe they will not be taking any prisoners come conference play....

Hard to make that point. Neither Iowa St or Uconn received a single point in this week's AP poll. Plus, one team lost due to a ref error on the road and another straight up lost on a neutral court.

Both were played on neutral courts. Both were unfortunately tainted by bad ref calls. Both Valley teams should have won, but they didn't.

As I predicted in another thread, all it would take would be another good loss and the Valley would jump right past the SWAC in conference RPI - and with this loss, the Valley has advanced dramatically to 21st. We're nipping on the heels of the Summit conference, but the Southland (at 19th) still has a pretty good lead on us.

Keep those good losses coming and the league can probaby climb up to 18th.

The remaining potential quality wins on WSU's schedule are @ San Diego State - and possibly Missouri State. We'll play LSU and another BCS bottom-feeder. Road Bracket Buster teams don't appear to provide a quality win opportunity right now.

It's going to be difficult for WSU to have the kind of wins that give an edge to a bubble team because WSU is about out of opponents who could provide that.

Technically yes, but some courts are more "neutral" than others. Considering Iowa St is about 45 minutes from Wells Fargo and Hawaii is over 5,000 miles from Storrs, I'd say the Hawaii match-up was probably a bit more "neutral."
