I also think that the BB games should be removed from the OOC SS. The intent (I would think) to use this as the tie-breaker is to encourage better scheduling. Having this game that is picked for you count is unfair in both directions.

Wasn't the SS based on a specific date in the past, perhaps before BB weekend?

I think it's always been based on the day after the MVC regular season ends. So this year it would be Sunday March 3rd.

Well, yes. It's a large bump but still a bump. Would you like me to call it something else? It won't change the facts.

I think that the figures given last week had to be a mistake if the latest figures are correct. No way one can go from 110 to 45.

I would like to see what Creighton and WSU's actual calculated non-con SOS were last week compared to now so we can see what type of actual movement occured. As I stated originally, you can look at the 45 v. 72 and think "Wow, that's a huge gap, how did they get that far ahead", but the truth is that the actual calculated gap is less than 2%

I understand that it seems impossible that those SOS's were static for the last 6-8 weeks but that's because no one had played a non-MVC team since December, so of course adding in another team to the list is going to cause some more dramatic movement. Especially when one of those teams is St. Mary's.

For what it's worth, I have been tracking the OOC SOS rankings for the Valley teams since conference play began. As you will notice, they are all from ESPN, except for the last two updates. ESPN's calculation formula appears to be fairly similar to The RPI Report, and as of yesterday had identical ranks for 8 of the MVC teams, and only 1 and 2 positions off for the other two teams.

I'm still trying to figure out those conference losses, but I'm leaning toward Mac opting to play for a 10 or 11 seed in the NCAA rather than risking the committee putting us in another 8-9 spot. Man do I feel a lot better about the way the last 1/2 of the season has gone. Wish I had recognized his plan earlier. Would have saved me some money on Rolaids.

Either that, or this team has suffered an irreversible breakdown. I'm opting to believe the above.

Gotta be the best coach in the Valley. Gutsy move by Mac, lets just hope we don't actually lose when we want to win, like in our next 2 games, or else that plan will backfire.

Great job Hacksaw. Just looking at who their schedules it's very clear that Creighton has played an won against better teams than Wichita St.

More important in CU's jump is the fact St. Mary's also has about 10 RPI 100 games, and does not have any losses to teams under RPI 200.

RPI Top 50 wins:
Creighton(AVG. 39.7): Wisconsin (25), vs. Akron (50), @California (44)
Wichita (38.7): @VCU (35), Southern Miss (36), vs. Creighton (45)

RPI Top 50 losses:
Creighton (40.3): vs. Boise State (47), @Wichita State (31), @Saint Mary's (43)
Wichita: No top 50 losses

RPI 51-100 wins:
Creighton (79): Arizona State (86), Saint Joseph's (85), @Nebraska (92), vs Indiana State (59), vs UNI (73)
Wichita (71.2): Iowa (89), @Air Force (72), UNI (73), @Indiana State (59), Detroit (63)

RPI 51-100 losses:
Creighton (66): @Indiana State (59), @UNI (73)
Wichita (62.7): @Tennessee (56), vs. Indiana State (59), @UNI (73)

RPI 101-200 losses:
Creighton (128.5): vs. Illinois State (106), @Drake (151)
Wichita (153): @Evansville (115), @SIU (191)

So, in summary Creighton beats Wichita State in two categories: Top 50 losses, and RPI 101-200 losses. I think it is fair to say that Creighton's strength of schedule is stronger because of those top 50 losses.

I agree. Sweeping Illinois State wasn't that impressive.

Losses don't really affect SOS directly. Sure losing helps the team that wins and makes the opponent look better. CU schedule does look tougher and according to sullentrops tweet it cu made a small point increase over a lot if tightly packed teams. I'm ok with it. Besides a tie is like kissing your sister anyway fight? I'm not heading to St. Louis until Friday. The only thing that matters is whether to leave at 4am or 10am. I'm cool with either time but I do kinda like earlier time slot. But whatever.
