Walt Lemon, Jr.

Here is an interesting tidbit from Dave Reynolds of the PJ Star about BU's Walt Lemon, Jr. Walt has certainly been one of the better players in the MVC this year.

With a strong finish to this season, Bradley guard Walt Lemon, Jr. has a chance to join an elite club, so exclusive it only includes one member.

Hersey Hawkins is the only BU player to compile at least 500 points, 100 rebounds, 100 assists and 70 steals in one season. Hawkins did so in 1988 when he was named the national Player of the Year by the Associated Press, Sporting News and others.

Lemon enters this weeks with 449 points, 114 rebounds, 102 assists and 66 steals. If the Braves play the minimum of three games remaining on their schedule, Lemon needs to average 17.0 points and 1.3 steals to gain entrance into Hawkins' club.

I hope I'm wrong, but theres a good chance Lemon gets all 4 steals he needs , and about 25 points in his next game.

I watched Walt Lemon and I watched Hersey Hawkins and Walt Lemon is no Hersey Hawkins (not even close). I would imagine that Bradley fans agree.

I should add that Dave Reynolds was comparing him to Hawkins when adding him to the "Hawkins club".

The two will share a statistical anomaly. That is all. I don't see why pointing that out has to automatically mean that it is a comparison. :|

Who can drive and score better than Lemon Jr? Who can hit Pull Ups better? Who has faster hands on defense? I've been thinking more and more Lemon Jr...is really good at what he does.

Right. He is just close to doing something, statistically, that no one else besides Hawkins has done. That's it. I didn't mean to imply he was as good as Hersey when I posted it.

Walt isn't perfect (too many turnovers for sure) but he is one of the hardest guys in the league to guard. That much is certain.

Even though he isn't in the same league as H Hawkins as a player Walt is still a stud. If he could cut down on the TO's he might be the best guard in the MVC.
