Will that TV deal stand after most of their premier schools leave? If it does, they won't sniff anywhere near that kind of money - relatively speaking due to inflation - in their next TV deal. I would think the MVC, bolstered by those three schools plus possibly CSU and Belmont, would be better positioned going forward.

It would likely have to be renegotiated. Depends on the language in the contract, but these contracts usually require renegotiation if a certain number/percentage/elite program leaves.

9 isn't an option.

We can't find decent non-con games as it is, can't put everybody in a place to have to find 2 more. 5 if you count the end of BracketBusters and the Mountain West Challenge...

Time to go get Oral Roberts in my opinion.

But overall my thought is move them up, move them over. I'm tired of the CU discussion and all this crap. We will miss them in a couple of sports but overall if we add the right school(s) the neighborhood won't be worse off due to their absence. Frankly it just greatly irritates me with this being the first day of March and everybody starting to think about the Tournament that the C7, Big East Leftovers, or whatever they call themselves has to upstage the whole event. I will miss Creighton make no mistake about that but--and this part I guarantee--they will end up missing the Valley the most. Give it a decade and we will see.

I always thought that there could a nuclear option of 16 teams with some combo of Oral Bob, Denver, New Mexico St (indy in FB), UTA, UALR, and then an extra Valpo, Detroit, or Milwaukee for the eastern division.

RIght now there's a Big 6 (ACC, B1G, Big 12, Pac 12, SEC, C7), a next 2 (MWC, C7), and then the Valley along with the WCC and a revamped A-10 in the next tier. Right now I'm looking to ward off, geographically, on both ends. Kill the WAC, blockade on the east front against the A-10, try to have more quality than the WCC, and hang onto the lead draft of conferences.

I can't tell whether I'm insane or brilliant with this thought.

Asian, I'm thinking more brilliant than insane. Hopelfully Mr. Elgin will go out like gangbusters and really put together a solid midwestern flavored Valley with 16 teams. And who knows maybe try to put feelers out to Memphis, Cincinnati and Tulsa all coming back into the fold.

Add a couple more D I football schools (possibly Ohio and Miami O) along with ISR and UNI (maybe NDSU) and you CAN have the best of both worlds: DI football for half the schools and a REALLY solid hoops conference that may just be able to leapfrog over the C7 in hoops.

That new MVC (with the right metro areas) should be VERY attractive for a big-tiime TV contract. Best wishes to CU, but maybe this will finally be what kickstarts Elgin into getting a true rivival for The Valley into one extremely potent MIDWESTERN conference.

I've heard it said that there is a fine line between genius and insanity. Perhaps you are straddling the line but I think not. I like your thoughts.

I see Murray State brought up from time to time and while the thought has intrigued me in the past I've tempered my thinking. Murray State is a public school and to keep something of a balance any replacement most likely should be a private school. Murray State is a small public school with a small athletic budget and small endowment. Murray State is located in a primarily rural area which means a small market and in Kentucky the probable illegal program that Calipari runs and WKU get most of the attention. Just some food for thought.

Elgin reach out to them while you have the chance.\
Whatever happens the valley must not be pasive about this,

I really hope that wasn't a serious suggestion.

I don't see why not, Cincinnati got burned, and burned bad by their fellow big easters, I'am willing to bet that they are willing to listen to anything that comes on the table. They got ditched by all those east-coast based schools they aligned themselves with, we should reach out to them with the overture of building something strong here in midwest, their natural home. We are losing one private, large city based member. We should replace it with another. We should entice them with also adding Tulsa and Detroit, and walla the Valley actually upgrades from this debacle. Its time for the valley to expand to 12 members, and Wichita ought to stop this silly mountain west talk, think big, and sell the pros of this conference.

There is no way the Bearcats would give up the revenue they receive from being part of a football conference, even at a reduced rate. And there is no way the Big East Leftovers would let them keep playing football while their other sports go to the MVC.

I like this post Valleyclimber, Memphis is a good option, if the Valley play its cards right, I don't see why there can't be more schools itching to get in than we can accomodate. But I still think our bullseye should be on Cincinnati, I think this is more realistic than people realize.

People should realize that Cincinnati is a B1G or SEC domino or two away from an ACC invite. They'll wait in a truncated BEast until then.

Also, don't forget the remaining BEast has a basketball membership of UConn, Cincy, Memphis, Temple, et al. Those are 4 programs right there offering better than anything the MVC can offer. And they're also too tied to Houston, SMU, the Floridas, et al. Shed them from your basketball schedule yet convince them to stay on the football one? Good luck selling that.
