The MAC is just so watered down in basketball. I would rather see us try to move up together and go after Western Kentucky, Tulsa, and New Mexico State. That would make a solid 12 team basketball and 8 team football conference.

Western Kentucky is going to C-USA, Tulsa will stay in CUSA but most likely to whatever the Big East football schools call themselves and New Mexico State is the wild card but they still need a FBS home which may turn out to be the Sunbelt.

"I'm being told by someone I trust implicitely that the schools could only agree on Butler and Xavier. That is why they are definitely coming in next year. I have also heard that Georgetown gave Creighton to Marquette and in return, Marquette is going to give Georgetown Richmond for school number 11. The schools are at odds about who should be team #12.

The only reason why Creighton is joining next year vs 2014 with Richmond is because Creighton's exit fee is pretty much nothing and Fox/Catholic 7 are helping with the exit fees.

I guess we will see."

So either SLU or Dayton might be left out eh?
So this leaves either St. Louis or Dayton out of the C-7. I don't know?

I'd like to think adding ISUr would help with basketball:) Kidding aside, I seem to recall the MAC having pretty good basketball more often than not - right?

The MAC as it sits right now (especially with ISUr/UNI) would be as good/better than the MVC without CU, WSU, and some combination of ISUr/UNI and with the Dakotas

If you give it a decade then Creighton will have made a minimum of $30 million over that decade from TV as opposed to a Valley school who will have made $4 million over that same time period. We'll have added expenses but those should be covered by the additional revenue from what is likely to be significantly more NCAA tourney money. So IF Creighton goes to the Big East I will certainly miss some aspects of the Valley, particularly Arch Madness, but I just don't see anyone regretting this move when you're looking at an extra $26 million in the bank.

I guess you're right. Even in 10th place, the checks cash the same.

At what point will you have to move out of the C-Link Center? I mean once the bandwaggoners jump, 4000 people are going to look pretty pathetic in there...

So why would you think that would happen? CU would be playing on TV a lot, lot more often than now and in major metro areas where there are loads of big time recruits. Do you really think we'll be recruiting the same level of player we are now? And I say that knowing that the current level of recruits we get now would still have us regularly sitting higher than DePaul, Seton Hall, Providence, etc.

Or say that we do finish 10th a couple of years and it looks like Mac isn't the guy. We currently pay him about a million a year which is even less than what we paid Altman. You could bump our pay up another million or million and a half to over $2 million a year. What level of coach would that get you? He'd have exposure, money, and the knowledge that he's coaching in a basketball-oriented league.

We've been doing just fine against a lot of these teams with the current resources we have. To think that we'll be continually behind all of them now that we'd actually be on a level playing field financially and exposure-wise is absurd.

Yeah, it will look like the McLeod does right now. Even during our worst year (18-16), we still managed 13,000 fans on a MVC schedule. Not too shabby...

I will miss Creighton make no mistake about that but--and this part I guarantee--they will end up missing the Valley the most. Give it a decade and we will see.

Please do tell Casey how you can "guarantee" this????? Do you have a time machine?? Fortune teller??

Or are you just basing it off of your superb analysis that we have seen in the past.

Let’s see.....10 years....I can probably give you 30 million reasons you might be wrong.

You know, the more and more I think about it, the MAC can work with partial memberships.

I go to Akron, Kent, Miami(OH) and Ohio and tell them they can realize their basketball potential (and they have it!) in the MVC. I would at least make a probing call, put some seeds in the dirt and hope it grows.

The MAC West has been absolutely deadly to their at-large chances every year. Akron, Ohio, Kent, so many times they've had good teams go by the board because the bottom half of the conference cares more about football.
