Vote Colt Ryan

Postby BCPanther » March 1st, 2013, 2:58 pm

I would encourage those of you outside of Omaha to contact your beat writers, SIDs, and play by play guys and encourage them to vote for Colt Ryan for the Larry Bird Trophy.

When a school has decided they are too good for your league, they are also too good for your awards.

Yikes!!! Could get ugly in here. Especially from the Panther fans. I'm sure if the Jays do get an invite will hear all about how it's only because we stole Doug from them.

You think you're on the radar as high up as you are if you don't have Doug carrying that team like he has?

Who else do you have other than him?

Keep in mind, the reason you have Gibbs is Doug

Good Lord.

Some of you are whiny bitches.

BCPanther, I hope you never consider taking a new job, or moving to a "better" neighborhood, or consider any opportunity that might better you and your family.

I applaud Creighton. Good for them. I'm jealous as hell, and wish that Bradley had continued the on court success from the mid 80s so that we would have been worthy of such an invite. Any fan of any school that wishes they weren't in the same boat is a liar.

I think it's great to see one of our own move on to the bigger stage, and hope that they can continue to have great success. Perhaps it's a model the rest of us can follow. Perhaps we can continue a solid relationship with Creighton so that we might receive some benefit from their taking the next step.

Congrats to the Bluejays. They've done things the right way and are being rewarded for it. That's how it's supposed to work here in America.

PS. I don't think Doug has much of anything to do with this. I think Creighton's 20 years of solid hoops success and the brand they have built has everything to do with it.

In addition, and remember as an old school Bradley fan, I HATE everything ISU. But, why is it that the exact same situation with Beane Jr moving to SIU isn't decried by Redbird fans? Why don't they whine and cry like UNI fans? Either they recognize the situation for what it is, or the tears of Panther fans are the only thing that can keep the corn green in July.

You can bet your ass that it was indeed a huge reason, and you are in denial if you argue otherwise. All the national publicity, the NCAA tournament appearances, top 25 rankings, etc. All that stuff is what is (maybe?) going to get Creighton into this league, and all of that came as a result of Doug McDermott.

The way it sounds, Creighton is one of the last teams that is going to get into this league even despite all that stuff. Can you honestly sit here and tell us that a Creighton team without Doug along with everything that he has brought to the program is going to be attractive enough to get into that league? C'mon... You better hope that guys like Nevin Johnson, Geoff Groselle or whatever other white boy recruits you have coming in next year are the second coming of Doug otherwise CU could be in for a rude awakening, and I mean that in the sense of MVC competition, not the ramped up BE competition against G'town, Marquette, Butler, etc.

I think some of us need to step back from the ledge here a little bit. I hope those who think Colt Ryan is the most valuable player will vote for him, but I do think it's silly to withhold votes from McDermott because of conference realignment discussion. I'm not a fan of his after what happened, and I'm not entirely sure he's the most "valuable" player in the conference, but I think he is the best player in the conference.

In the same way, if Gregg Marshall announced he was leaving for a BCS conference school on Monday, I still think he was the best MVC coach 2012-13.

Few things are more comical than a UNI fan referring to other schools players as "white boy recruits."

Good thing that Northern Iowa has never left another conference to accept an offer from someone else, right?

Oh wait.... If UNI didn't spurn another conference they would still be a little directional teacher's college that nobody has ever even heard of.

Pretty hypocritical.

By the way, did Creighton ever say they are leaving?

Because its not the same. Not even remotely the same, and to compare the two situations as equal is laughable. What happened to UNI in this instance, and the layers upon layers of consequences, is completely unique and has likely not happened in the history of college basketball.

I don't expect Creighton fans to apologize, I don't expect them to take it back or give it back. What they have is theirs now, and that's fine and great for them. I would have LOVED it if UNI had been on the receiving end of this deal. What I do expect, however, is for them to admit be honest about what it was--a tremendous gift that has brought them tremendous fortune. To infer that what they have earned the last few years, and the next many years (with this conf realignment stuff) would have been the same without Doug is dishonest and delusional.
