Because its not the same. Not even remotely the same, and to compare the two situations as equal is laughable. What happened to UNI in this instance, and the layers upon layers of consequences, is completely unique and has likely not happened in the history of college basketball.

I don't expect Creighton fans to apologize, I don't expect them to take it back or give it back. What they have is theirs now, and that's fine and great for them. I would have LOVED it if UNI had been on the receiving end of this deal. What I do expect, however, is for them to admit be honest about what it was--a tremendous gift that has brought them tremendous fortune. To infer that what they have earned the last few years, and the next many years (with this conf realignment stuff) would have been the same without Doug is dishonest and delusional.

I don't want Creighton's thanks, I just want to beat them. That should be all that matters, getting them to acknowledge how crappy the situation was for UNI isn't going to make it less crappy. I'm not saying we need to forget about it or start liking the McDermotts or anything, but dwelling on it isn't productive or healthy in my opinion.

BCPanther, I hope you never consider taking a new job, or moving to a "better" neighborhood, or consider any opportunity that might better you and your family.

I applaud Creighton. Good for them. I'm jealous as hell, and wish that Bradley had continued the on court success from the mid 80s so that we would have been worthy of such an invite. Any fan of any school that wishes they weren't in the same boat is a liar.

I think it's great to see one of our own move on to the bigger stage, and hope that they can continue to have great success. Perhaps it's a model the rest of us can follow. Perhaps we can continue a solid relationship with Creighton so that we might receive some benefit from their taking the next step.

Congrats to the Bluejays. They've done things the right way and are being rewarded for it. That's how it's supposed to work here in America.

PS. I don't think Doug has much of anything to do with this. I think Creighton's 20 years of solid hoops success and the brand they have built has everything to do with it.

In addition, and remember as an old school Bradley fan, I HATE everything ISU. But, why is it that the exact same situation with Beane Jr moving to SIU isn't decried by Redbird fans? Why don't they whine and cry like UNI fans? Either they recognize the situation for what it is, or the tears of Panther fans are the only thing that can keep the corn green in July.

This is a tremendous post. I really like the Valley and will still be a fan even if Creighton leaves to the Big East, but a program at our level would be crazy to pass up this opportunity.

I truly believe that Colt Ryan is the best player in the conference, and one of the best in the country. Of course, I am a die-hard Aces fan and have enjoyed seeing this young man play for four years now...as an ACE. However, I certainly don't think Doug M. should be penalized just because his school may leave the MVC. The people who vote should vote for whom they think deserves the award. I do hope Colt plays well in the tourney, and that he gets some recognition outside of the conference....he has certainly earned it.

Think your forgetting we have only had Doug for 2 and a half years. The Big East or what have you, would not go after a school simply cause they have been good for 2 years, i think it is the whole state of the ENTIRE program and the ability we have shown to be consistently good. Its been over 15 years of consistantly being good and being in and out of the top 25/ and NCAAs that would make us appealing to them.....not just the last 2 years. And our other programs are looking up also, with some of the best overall facilities in the country(Baseball, Soccer, Basketball), and our fan support is great, our market(Omaha) is a good sized market. Its comical to say because of Doug, this is why we may be able to be in the Big East/C7. Of course if UNI had Doug it would be you guys being discussed. Since the cedar falls area is a great TV market, and your award-winning facilities, and 15 + years of basketball success. Not that you arent a great basketball program, and you have seriously been solid for , idk, almost 10 years? Its an exciting time to be a UNI fan, people know about you now after beating Kansas, Jake's a great coach, etc. It's just theres a lot more to this than just being a good basketball team this year. Its about many things- TV market, fan support, consistency, potential to name a few.

I don't blame Creighton at all. If this opportunity was presented to any other league member (UNI included) I would expect them to jump at the offer. I am just stating the fact that I believe that we don't need to shower praise upon a team that is leaving the league.

Also, I thank them for the tournament money they will be leaving behind.

You can tell yourself that stuff if it makes you feel better, deanthony. But it's just not true. Doug, and the success that he has brought, is absolutely a huge part of this. Creighton of 4 years ago was not getting invited to this league.

College athletics is about here and NOW, what have you done for me lately. Just 4-5 years ago, Butler was a small-major CBB program averaging 4K fans per game. A few years later, after a couple super deep tournament runs and some great players coming through the program, here they are now, getting invited to the A-10 and now the Big East. Its the same thing. Its about right place and right time, and Creighton is fortunate that this is happening now.

Creighton is considered because we are a private, catholic, successful basketball school without any football and strong academics. If UNI kept Doug, they would still be public, without religious affiliation and have football.

What some of you don't know is that Creighton has been pining for a conference with our private, Catholic peers for decades. It is nothing against the MVC; we have always wanted to be with schools like us. As I've said before, it is very common for Catholic families in the midwest to send one child to Creighton, one to SLu and one to Marquette. They are our natural rivals. It is why seemingly we have a St Joe's, Dayton or Xavier on our schedules yearly.

The MVC doesn't have private, catholic brethren. In fact, outside of perhaps Evansville, the MVC doesn't even have any religious affiliated schools at all other than CU.

Again, no one is blaming you for jumping. Just be honest with yourselves, the publicity from Doug gave you a leg up over some other like minded Catholic institutions.

Amen, if they want to leave, no POY award.
