Ginger (Doug) or Mary Ann (Colt): Which One Do You Want?

OK, if you can only pick among Doug or Colt to build a MVC team around, which one do you want?

Um, Doug. more points, more rebounds, higher shooting percentage by 12%, higher 3 pt percentage by 6%. Oh, and the team built around him has proven over two years it can win.

ya, he doesn't play defense. but everything else makes up for it.

i am biased, having said that, i think it is safe to say that an unbiased opinion would be to pick the guy that was an AP 1st team All-American.

To build a team around? Tough choice. Similar players in a lot of ways, although Doug provides the kind of inside rebound/tip-in/FT presence that Evansville has been missing most of the last four years.

I propose the two play a game of HORSE at ScottTrade on Drake Night. Winner gets my vote.

isn't Colt now averaging more ppg in conference now?
I'd think if he had the 2 games early (injured game and the one he shouldn't have played - coming back too soon) he would have more on the season.

I respect Colts game but I think its Doug without question. I think you could put Doug on any Valley team and he would make them an instant winner. I don't think the reverse is true.

Doug has better talent around him, especially three point shooters and post players, meaning that he is less guarded during Valley play. Valley defenses that focus too much on Doug are going to pay for it in the paint or at the 3 point line from many shooters.

Colt has lesser talent around him, not as many good 3 point options and inexperienced post players, meaning that he is more guarded during Valley play. Valley defenses can focus on stopping Colt and know that the Aces are less likely to score in the paint or from the 3 point line.

Put Colt Ryan on the Creighton team and he has a chance for some national recognition. Put Doug Mc on the Evansville team and he struggles to be anything more than a Valley hero.

The national media, IMHO, has peed all over themselves trying to find a mid-major candidate for player of the year and anointed Doug. That said, Doug is a special player who deserves all the accolades he gets.

some decent points, but ask yourself this, who has a bigger effect on the game and can score in the most ways ,thus forcing opposing coaches to game plan for that one player? it is doug, and it is not close.

just look at the numbers. the media "peed" themselves b/c doug had numbers that were completely ridiculous (at one point i think he was at about 24.5 a game, 57% from the field and 53% from 3), and have slipped some obviously. add that start the first 20 games to an AP 1st team AA selection from last year, and it is not media hype or cheering a player IMHO.

colt is a damn good guard, but he is the "valley hero" you referred to. doug is being considered as a top 5 player in D1 for the 2nd year in a row. and that is the difference.

would colt be a first team AA candidate on CU? No, there are quite a few better guards nationally regardless of what jersey or what players are around him.

After watching Doug today, I may have to vote again.
