Yes, but I doubt CU will have any use for playing BU unless they determine we're a 'buy' game.

I would definitely like to see CU continue to play valley teams, but like most of you I don't think they will. It just wouldn't make sense unless they were at home. That's the problem with the Valley: it is perpetually good enough to take down top programs on occasion, but not good enough to do so with any regularity, so it is too much of an RPI risk to schedule Valley teams. Which is why we will never be higher than where we are now in terms of conference RPI.

Now that's a fair response.

For the olympic sports, I'd say it is a resounding yes. Truth be told, if there were any way to stay in the MVC for baseball, I'd be in favor of that. I'd really like to maintain the WSU and MSU series if it can't be done. In soccer, Drake and Bradley would be two series I'd like to keep.

For men's basketball, it is tougher. First of all, it is impossible to play everyone, so that isn't even an option. I wouldn't be opposed to one series a year, but it would have to be an RPI enhancing series. I suspect that Asian Sensation is probably on point - a transitional period will probably take place while everything is sorted out - finances, recruiting and yes, scheduling.

I would do a home and home, that's about it. Not going to roll into Omaha for a buy game. Baseball I don't think we would want to play the Jays. That league will be a dumpster fire for baseball but I wouldn't mind a midweek home and home each year.

SIU says "Sure". It's already been announced that the Salukis will take a buy game next year. And with the budget issues within SIU and the State of Illinois, I suspect that will be a yearly occurrence for the forseeable future. The rivalry between SIU and Creighton was some of the best basketball I've seen in the Arena in my life. Being at the Arena for the ESPN Gameday game or Kent Williams burying a 3 over Kyle Korver late in the 2002 game was awesome. It just sucks that "you know who" wrecked the program, making those 2 games in Carbondale and Omaha virtually meaningless.

On top of that, from public comments from Barry, he and Greg McDermott are close friends. That might mean that there would be more of an opportunity for a game or two to be worked out.

I'm sure UNI would continue to because of the relationship with Mac and Jake.

I also bet the games would always be at Creighton, because Mac would ask Jake to put his friend hat on instead of his coach hat.

I agree , those SIU-CU games were intense. I still remember the last time we played you guys in the civic we were up 1 or tied cant remember, but there was like 2.7 seconds and you had to go the length of the floor, and your guy dribbled as fast as he could and pulled up just past half court and leaned in to shoot a prayer and DeanthonyBowden(the real one) had his arms straight up and was even falling backwards and i guess the SIU player's momentum from goin full speed carried him forward and i guess made slight contact with Deanthony's already upright arms, and Mike Sanzere called a foul at the buzzer from half court! He made at least one or two of the freethrows and you guys won. It was the worst call in CU history considering how big the game was. Anyone else remember this game? Im almost positive it was nationally televised? 2002-03 at the civic in omaha. But I remember we got the last word in cause a couple weeks later we met in the championship game in St.Louis, and it was a packed house full of SIU fans, and we absolutely destroyed them , we beat them by 30! (I think there was some anger after feeling like the refs stole a game from us on our own home floor). And leaving the game there was multiple fights between different fans. Some drunk SIU students even threatened to beat the hell out of someone cause they didn't like what that person said (heres the kicker, the Creighton fan was like 14) Honestly, there was no class at all with SIU fans, but they didn't care, they took on the personality of their team and embraced being dirty and being the hated ones. Maybe it was just the students, but students accounted for most of their fans. I'm not sure if anyone else in the Valley, outside of CU and SIU fans, realized how big of a rivalry this was for a long time. SIU was the toughest hardest playing team I have ever seen for many years, they didn't have a lot of talent, and not a lot of depth either, but they outworked everyone, good teams were lucky to put up 60 on them. Average teams were lucky to reach 50. Masters of the hand check all game they basically held you half the game and hacked you, but I think as long as it was just on the wrists refs didn't usually call it. Loved that rivalry, I just feel like its barely a rivalry anymore. Creighton fans hated SIU more than we hate WSU now, and SIU absolutely hated our guts. Those were some rough crowds in carbondale, I mean the stuff chanted and hollered at our players was way worse than anything I have heard at any other arena. And it's nothing against SIU, I loved the way it was!

It was 2002, the first Sweet Sixteen year. The game was on Super Bowl Sunday and the shooter was Kent Williams.

You're kidding, right?

Bruce Weber is at Kansas State, with top assistant Chris Lowery and video coordinator Brad Korn (former Saluki player and assistant coach).
