OT: Your St. Louis favorite places

Beer: The new Flying Saucer that's opening at 900 Spruce is going to be my favorite, assuming it opens up by this weekend, and I think it will be. The one in Kansas City is awesome. They have a ridiculous amount of taps and the food is edible, too.

I also enjoy the ample beer selections of these establishments:

4 Hands Brewery, downtown
Urban Chestnut Brewery, a cheap cab ride west of downtown near SLU

Meshon's/The Bismark (not positive this place is still in business)

I can offer some advice since I live here. One of the most exciting developments in the area has been a legitimate microbrew scene emerging in the past couple of years. I would highly recommend the Civil Life, 4 Hands Brewery, Urban Chestnut to name a few. A lot of times they have local food trucks outside. Schlafly Bottleworks out in Maplewood (short drive from downtown) offers tours of their Brewery, which can be a fun way to spend an afternoon. They also have a tap room downtown.

For food, check out Blues City Deli. Pretty cool, laid back atmosphere and you pretty much can't go wrong with whatever sandwich you decide. Head over to the Hill and you can get a great sandwich or a great italian dinner. Again, you really can't go wrong. If you are in the mood for pizza, stay away from IMO's (blasphemy to say this in STL). The provel cheese is a turn-off to a lot of outsiders. There is this hole in the wall bar called Black Thorn that serves the best pizza in the area. Thick crust and delicious, not the paper-thin crust a lot of STL places serve. If you want some legitimate, authentic Mexican food, go to La Vallesana on Cherokee street. Best tacos in the area. You won't be disappointed.

I loved IMO's, the cheese was awesome. I've tried to replicate it at home many times...come close, never good enough. I also love very thin/crispy crusts - hate Chicago style

I went every year in college, and for a while after...however, work caused me to miss last year and a very pregnant wife this year. We both hate the fact we can't make it this year.

I enjoy Caleco's quite a bit. It seems people either love it or hate it...not much in between.

Crown Candy is very very good

Loved Tigin Irish Pub...granted I was there over St. Patty's day the one year (may have been the S16 UNI was in)...live music, great food and service

Mauricio's - Best and only late night pizza buffet downtown. Make sure you're pretty drunk though, otherwise it may not look as appealing as it is. Don't be scared by some of the clientele, there are usually 2-3 armed policemen in there keeping the peace. Be sure to crack a window if you're driving the next day though, it makes its presence known to all around you before exiting (which is also an adventure, allow at least a half hour).

Pappy's is fantastic.

I remember Sundecker's before CU took it over.

McGurk's in SouLard is a nice spot too, especially if the weather cooperates.

I miss Union Station as a legitimate starting/meeting point before the tourney.

The forecast for the weekend is high 50's and low 60's for Friday and Saturday. Some of my buddies coming in town for the weekend are bringing their clubs.
