Anything on HD would be better than what we have now. We look like the minor leagues on TV and its embarrassing.

Does any of the cu people have concerns they are going to be able to increase funding enough to stay competitive? This story tried to minimize this issue, but it clear there is a big difference in spending.

I understand from a basketball prospective, but even if those other markets are much larger I'd still say it is more likely for to entice a kid from Wichita to chose to go to CU then a kid from New York. Now that is pure academics, recruiting wise its not even close. I'd love to see who Marshall could recruit if we played games in NYC, Chicago, etc. every year.
Thoughts and prayers to WSU finding a new conference.

Those women's soccer trips to Seton Hall, Providence and St. John's don't pay for themselves.

I think of my own school and what they could do with an extra $3M a year in TV revenue vs. $300K...my lord. Talk about a no-brainer for CU.

What would the reaction be if the tables were turned and a Shocker fan posted this with Omaha in bold letters? Just something to think about when other schools spout off that Shocker fans are the only ones who come on here trying to flame and troll. This was clearly meant as a troll post to get a reaction.

I questioned this upon first breaking of this story. Was told they are already successful, no need to increase budget. Was asked specifically where to spend, was told there is no place to increase budget.

JayWalker wrote:Good stuff here, including the fact that Creighton currently pulls in $350,000 from MVC TV and Tournament revenue, which would go up 10 fold in the new league. Also, an interesting quote here:

“Your basketball team is your biggest marketing brochure,'' said Andrew Fellingham, a New York-based college athletics consultant.

“Do you want to put your biggest marketing brochure in New York, Chicago, Milwaukee and Cincinnati, or do you want to put it in Wichita?''

I don't have a problem with the quote issued by a NY guy http://intercollegiateac.com/andrew_fellingham.htm
He could have inserted Lawrence, Norman, Stillwater, Lincoln, Mancrappin, or any number of BCS towns in the same sentence. Except for the fact that the MoVal does a TERRIBLE job in marketing itself to any other market except for the cities in which their teams are located.

Of course, the C7 must fit in CU's demographic target markets (which I believe the C7 provides). Regardless of travel costs, the C7 is a perfect fit for CU from both an athletic AND academic perspective. The only thing that puzzles me slightly is why CU would be one of the C7 top choices. This is not a slam to CU and its academics or athletics, but only due to its geograpahic fit.

:+1:

The irony of the post is that the Wichita television market is larger than the Omaha one.
