Hate be the guy to explain the rules to you, but for RPI purposes and strength of schedule the purposes, the game does not count.

I don't know why so many non-WSU fans are adamant about knocking Chaminade down as far as they could. They are a D-2 team. There is no denying that.

They now however have played close in a loss to a Top 10 school and now have beaten another BCS school. Granted, Oklahoma sucks. But please don't act like they're chopped liver just because WSU walloped em.

I hate to be the guy to explain this to you, but that's exactly what I said. The game does not count.

UCONN is leading #9 Kentucky. Does that count? I'm anxiously awaiting your advice on what I should think about this.

Chaminade beats OU. No RPI boost, but helps the "eye test"

Maui was considered by many to have the best field of all the preseason tournaments.

UConn wins the tournament.

Only one team played UConn close.

That won't count in the RPI either. The WSU/UConn game probably didn't get a lot of national notice. After UConn took out MSU and Washington, UConn is NOTICED. That's going to make people look at who they played. A lot will notice that WSU was better than UConn for the least important 37 minutes of the game.

That won't count in the RPI either.

Ask Barry Hinson or any MSU fan about the value of the RPI. It seems the selection committee uses more than just RPI when they make their selections. The committee will see UConn on WSU's resume and remember Maui. they will remember that Chaminade beat OU. If they remember that WSU pasted Chaminade by 20, then it's as good as a D1 W.

But it doesn't count in the RPI.

You didn't win right? You lost right? Let me get this straight, you're bragging about a loss? We lost but man that other team was really good. Did you hear what the guys that beat us are saying about us? The guys that beat us think we are good is something to be excited about? Low bar dude. I've watched a lot of selection Sunday shows. In all of those could you show me just one time that they talked about a team that was picked to play because of a loss? No one is going to care when it matters.

Did he stutter blueblood...only one team played UConn close in Maui. They lost but they played 'em the closest...that counts for something right?

Didn't Michigan State play UCONN close too? Or is that 70-67 final deceptive (34 all at half)?

I'm not even saying that playing UConn close "counts" for anything. A lot of things that "don't count for anything" get teams invited. Nothing in the "eye test" counts for anything. Reputation seems to count A LOT! If the members of the committee recognize a name or remember a name, that seems to have some influence on invites.

For a non-football bubble team, anything that gets your name out there that is not negative helps with the committee. WSU didn't get much RPI-wise in Maui, but they showed they can play with some very good teams. I've heard many times that a team didn't get an invite because they had never shown that they could "play with" tournament-quality teams. As I recall that cost MSU in some of their great RPI years when they didn't get invited.

Here's how it works:

Nice comparison to the then #2 team in the country. That's exactly what WSU got in Maui - the ability to be compared with the #2 team in the country.

So are you saying it is ok to compare scores? UE lost to Butler by 4 and had a shot to tie it with seconds left. I guess we could say they are just as good as the runner up last year? They also beat UNI which went to the S16, does that mean they are just as good as a S16 team. See how comparing scores really doesn't work? You lost, it does not matter if it was by 2 or 102.
