Arch Madness Memories

Postby DA-BIRDS90 » March 6th, 2013, 9:58 am

Being that I am a senior at Illinois State and have been attending Arch Madness since I was in grade school, I always go back and recollect some of my favorite MVC memories from St. Louis.... Here is one Creighton fans will appreciate... in the past I felt bad for WSU.. After this year, nahhh.. March 10th, 2009....Can anyone say WOODFOX!!!

looking back at that video, something that nobody seems to mention was how blatant a moving screen that was set to free Toure Murray for that 3 to give them the lead. I mean it was a textbook moving screen. Can't really expect a call there, but that was pretty obvious, whoever set it did a damn good job of getting away with it though!!

Maybe it was karma that the 1.9 took longer than usual or that the shocker just threw the ball out of bounds when he had the rebound!! Still can't figure out what that dude was doing!

Other memories for me was Mike Menser just torching the Jays something fierce one game including a 40 footer before the halftime horn. :x

80-56 over SIU when it was a Monday night game. Tough Tuesday of work after not sleeping that night and taking the 5:30 AM flight out of Lambert!

There's no more memorable Arch Madness moment than this one. 15+ years later it still gets brought up by national outlets as one of the craziest buzzer-beaters ever.

God that still hurts to watch. The wife and I watched 2/3 of the game at Buffalo Wild Wings and I couldn't take anymore so we went home when they were down about 20. Got home and turned it on and couldn't believe that they had it down single digits and when Murray hit the shot I went crazy. Probably the highest and lowest emotions within a five minute span that I ever have gone through in sports. Still don't think he got the shot off in time. Why doesn't the Valley have the officials control the clock on their belt like other conferences do?

This one gets brought up from time to time. I think this is from the last year before the tourney was permanently moved to St Louis. I was there hoping Curtis Stuckey could get enough help to win us a championship. Unfortunately for me and my drunken buddies that went, that didn't happen.

I was there at the game.. At the end of the first half, I swore it was over and I started a nice conversation with WSU fans about non-basketball topics... Then I remember the amazing comeback by WSU... It was awesome and special to watch.. When they knocked down the three, I thought it was game over... But I would agree, it was devastating.. I could not believe there was not a rule in place to take a better look at when the clock started.. Woodfox took two dribbles before it started... It was crazy... I hope the tourney this year bring something special!

UNI fans still joke about that to this day. It 100% turned the game. A complete and total 180...

Vanderbilt plays in the Paradise Jam with us next fall and Khan (who also posts here) requested that Jake take a full timeout towards the end of the first half just to stare at Stallings for the entire time.
