For a non-football bubble team, anything that gets your name out there that is not negative helps with the committee. WSU didn't get much RPI-wise in Maui, but they showed they can play with some very good teams. I've heard many times that a team didn't get an invite because they had never shown that they could "play with" tournament-quality teams. As I recall that cost MSU in some of their great RPI years when they didn't get invited.

Here's how it works:
Didn't Michigan State play UCONN close too? Or is that 70-67 final deceptive (34 all at half)?

Nice comparison to the then #2 team in the country. That's exactly what WSU got in Maui - the ability to be compared with the #2 team in the country.

So are you saying it is ok to compare scores? UE lost to Butler by 4 and had a shot to tie it with seconds left. I guess we could say they are just as good as the runner up last year? They also beat UNI which went to the S16, does that mean they are just as good as a S16 team. See how comparing scores really doesn't work? You lost, it does not matter if it was by 2 or 102.

I would think that losing by two points, or one possession, is different than losing by 14 points, or 5-7 possessions. The first lost indicates two evenly matched teams. The second loss indicates a team that was able to score more or defend better, or both. I have said a hundred times that there is not much difference between a 1 point victory and a 2-3 point loss.
There is no difference between basketball and life. Give both your best and ignore the "fans" on the sideline.

Aces1982, why do you jump all over Shocker Fan when they compare scores, but ignore sixthace when he makes similar comparisons with Evansville (i.e. losing by 4 to Butler)?

It seems like you're willing and ready to unload on the Shockers but don't bat an eyelash to what anything asinine said by your fanbase. Double standards?

Also, I would say there's a difference between getting beat by 2 and 102. The similarities are, yes they are both losses, however the two have completely different identities. I hope you realize that with your attempt at putting another nail into the WSU coffin.

I think your memory is fading a bit with age as one of the years MSU was passed over they had a win over Wisconsin, which was #2 in the nation. Note that I didn't say a win over a team that beat the #2 team, but MSU actually beat the number 2 team. Of course, MSU didn't play Chaminade though; obviously a win over that D2 squad would have gotten them in...

I'm just astonished to see anyone taking "this loss will really help us" seriously enough to respond to it.

I would be willing to say anybody that said UE lost by 4 was just making a statement and not trying to imply we could almost be a Final Four team, at least thats the way I take it.

I take the statement that WSU fan(s) have made was we played UConn closer then anyone else therefore we would have played Mich St and UK close. Just the way I am reading it.
