MVC Tournament: Fan Almost Wins $50,000.00.....

...but fails to take the 3 pointer.

He hit the FT.

He hit the half court shot.

He then dances around and forgets that he needs to make a 3 pointer.

I blame the referees..............................

One of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen. It looked like he argued with the Valley and Casey's representatives for quite awhile after they refused to give him the $50K. He didn't hit the 3-pointer. End of story.

On top of that, if you look at the clock, he only had 2 seconds left when the half-court shot went it, which means he wouldn't have even had time to get off the necessary 3-pointer within the allotted time. And then when he figured out that he forgot to shoot the 3-pointer, he ran up and took one or two shots from 3-point range---about 5 or 10 seconds after the clock expired---apparently thinking that the clock didn't matter and he could still win if he went up and nailed a 3.

I don't feel too bad for the guy since he still ended up getting 4 free Arch Madness tickets for life plus some other free stuff.

It was a super dumb move by Casey's to not just give him the $50k (or split the difference and give him, say, $10k or $25k when they came back to interview him 15 minutes later). It was a publicity stunt that ended with about half the arena pissed at them.

My guess is they farmed out the risk to an insurer and knew they couldn't collect on the policy since the rules weren't adhered to. None of their on-site representatives likely had the power to do anything significant without going up the ladder and there wasn't time for that.

Why???? The dude didn't follow the rules, plain and simple. If you ask me he was damn lucky to get what he got.

Because the whole point is to promote goodwill for your business, not to look like the stickler bad guy. There were about 100 people in my section chanting Boycott Casey's.

$10k is chump change to them. Dishing that out would have made them look amazing to everyone there. Instead, the dumb college kid who misunderstood the rules and drilled a miracle shot looks like a martyr.

It's not all about the rules, it's about what's good for business.

I'm fairly sure they can find a way to make that $10K go a lot farther than just handing it out to some guy who couldn't follow directions. Sure some of the people may have been pissed at first but how long is that going to last? HAVE TRIED THEIR PIZZA?? How could you stay mad at them before you come crawling back?
