Phelps gone according to CBS. Is it true that Phelps won more games in the first five years then any other Drake coach?

It's very strange for Drake to fire Phelps. He was at least as successful as Tom Davis. The Keno Davis season was a miracle with little chance of being repeated. Is Drake ready to pony up and start paying a big league coach a big league salary?

I mean seriously.. cut the 200k bullshit and pay a hot up-and-comer 500k. Drake is a fine business school. Are you telling me Drake can't find a couple hundred thousand more a year amongst all their alums? It's very simple. If you want a winning program, somebody is going to have to pay a competitive salary.

Every conference needs a Northwestern, DePaul, Auburn, etc. As a UNI fan, I am hoping Drake continues their death spiral back to irrelevance. We have enough competition recruiting Iowa kids away from ISU, Iowa, and CU. Adding another quality program right in the middle of the state would water down the field even more.

I also think Drake is a sleeping monster, which scares me a little. They are in a large market and have the history to gain momentum quickly. If they really cared about MBB and wanted DSM support, they would play at Vets and pony up some big bucks for a new coach. Something tells me this isn't going to happen and my wish will come true.

I'm pretty sure that they won't play at Vets, since all of the seats were removed several years ago. As far as Drake's potential, it seems obvious to me, I just hope somebody at the school gets it soon. With Creighton leaving Drake will have the second largest metropolitan area population in the Valley.
