MVC 12 teams East/West divisions

Here's a proposal.
Lowers travel, brings rivalries together and is a win-win and may push the mvfc to FBS for even more exposure

12 teams with east/west divisions.

Uni
Drake
Ndsu
Sdsu
Miss state
Wichita st

East
Evansville
Ill state
Ind st
Bradley
Siu
Belmont? (Uwgb Oakland uw mil?)

Lets do this!!

NDSU & sdsu rpi would put them 3-4 in this league consistently and get a tv contract with FSN

I may be in the minority here but I don't hate it. My dream addition would be getting ORU to the Valley and getting ourselves back into the state of Oklahoma. NDSU/SDSU is a decent alternative especially if we can get Belmont. It also should pacify the private schools in this conference while maintaining a commitment to be the best we can be in all sports. We shall see what follows in the coming days and weeks.

Oru wants to stay in texas even though whopping 942 fans watched thier tourney game the other day.

I like the division split maybe it allows to skip a team year to year so they only have 1 trip out west every other year

Why on Earth would you want ORU? They're sinking money wise at that school and honestly, what do they offer other than basketball? Since when is the state of Oklahoma a prize to be had?

Give me NDSU and SDSU any day. They are the premier schools in those states and they devout a lot of time and money to their athletics. I'll take them over anything else right now that we can realistically get.

What about New Mexico State if they get a Sunbelt invitation for football only which is very possible. Are they too far outside the footprint? Let's assume for a moment that Denver is posturing and the confernce does go to 12. Would the combination of both be palatable for the western side of The Valley? I'm am wondering what WSU fans think since they are now the farthest most west member of the conference.

Another school almost as crappy as NDSU

Fixed.

At the very least, WSU and Bradley would bolt before being a part of that abomination. Some of the other Valley schools might too.

No way EU stays with that insane travel...

Why pass up like schools 3-8 hrs away for 12-18 hrs in a bus?

UIC & WIU would make more sense than NDSU/SDSU... And WIU/UIC doesn't begin to compare to Belmont/Murray St.

I say all this based on budgets, rivalries, and most importantly since this is COLLEGIATE competition travel... Nobody can afford to travel 16 programs to the Dakotas and have sound budgets. WIU can attest to that and we like the SL. Imagine if I had an axe to grind, it'd be very easy to portray the Dakotas as a dead end addition.

North/South Divisions work best FYI... That's with the best MVC choices like Belmont, Murray State and Loyola in there.

North; UNI, Drake, BU, ISU, Loyola, In State. South; SIU, EU, WSU, Belmont, Murray St, Mo State.

See I fixed it! I feel like the gas station clerk in Tommy Boy trying to get Richard to read the right map.

12 teams is almost certain to not happen. Unless there's a school or 2 that's likely to get an at large bid every 2 or 3 years in the group added. Otherwise, the Valley is taking the money from NCAA games and splitting it 12 ways instead of 10. I think I can name 4 or 5 schools off the top of my head who just plain can't afford that.

12 teams also gives everybody 16 league games. That's 2 more OOC games to schedule. Buy games are in the $80 - $100K range, so some schools can't afford that. Home-and-homes are really hard to schedule. That would cause more Valley teams to accept one-and done away games for the payday. Nothing screams "mid-major" quite as loud as a league whose teams regularly schedule away games for the money.

There's no point in speculating about 12 teams unless you just need a way to pointlessly kill time.

Very valid point, 10 seems healthier to me as well.

My thoughts relating to 12 is having extra teams in case ISU jumps for the MAC etc but there is no good gauge for when or if that type of thing would happen. Also, teams that'd accept now will accept when that time comes.

As for scheduling regardless of at 10 or 12 teams I'd want some 2 home 2 away series with A10, MWC types. The new Metro conference as well. BU dumped tons of $ into practice facilities and over 800k per year for Geno Ford so there are teams happy to spend. Those who can't afford that need to admit they aren't the ones who should not be shaping the MVC. Everyone gets a say but I'm listening more to WSU, BU and such right now. Schools that will spend $ will always be able to find occasional opportunities.

Not hard to replace the Evansville's of the MVC.

The league already has a TV deal with FSN.
