Illinois State turns down bid?

Postby shoxrox » March 17th, 2013, 8:38 pm

Who do these guys think they are? Kentucky? Oh wait, Kentucky actually accepted a bid and has to go on the road to play Robert Morris.

The Valley team with the longest absence from an NCAA appearance is turning down bids to postseason? Can somebody explain this rationale to me? Is Illinois State too good for the postseason now? Or did the beatdown by WSU in St. Louis that completed the season sweep just knock them out of competitive mode for the year?

Anybody???

That's very weird. You gotta think the players would like to keep playing? Perhaps they all said they were tired and ready to shut 'er down for the year.

Horrible decision on the part of ISU. Really? I'd wholeheartly agree with the previous post.

Sad for ISU-R. Anyhow, good for all the MVC teams that DO want to carry The Valley banner and represent their schools in competition.

I'm not sure I understand why this is such a bad thing for Illinois State.

This year's team is based around their two seniors, and Jackie and Tyler Brown won't be back next year. They only had one contributing freshman this year (Keane).

There's not really any opportunity for Illinois State to grow by accepting a bid and playing 1-4 more games, because they'll have to revamp this summer anyway.

(For what its worth, the same logic applies to Evansville)

I am glad we are not playing in a s*** tournament like the CIT or the CBI. At least a bid to the NIT would be respectable. I get the philosophy let our returning players get more experience but i think the only postseason tourney we should play in is NIT or NCAA. If you don't make it to those tournaments you did not have a good enough season. The CIT and the CBI tournaments are a waste of money. Lets say our goodbyes to the seniors and turn our focus to next season.

IMO it is a payback to the seniors who have left their blood, sweat and tears for their university to get to play. They may come to regret that decision sooner than they think.

Poor decision.

The team can play 2-4 games and grow a little bit.

Good enough for some other pretty good programs.

Are we sure they were even invited to another tournament? They had a pretty pedestrian record, and a sub .500 MVC 6th place MVC finish, so its not like an invite was a given.

If they did have an invite on the table, I think they should have accepted. Any extra games are a plus no matter how you look at it. For the seniors to be able to put the jersey on a few more times, for the young guys to get more experience, and for a first year coach to get some more game experience.
