For my Saluki's, I would much rather get an invitation to the Big East than a S16.

I was going to say i'm pretty sure i heard Doug on Rome at some point not to terribly long ago. . . Either way i think both programs have had amazing years.

p.s.-im just talking about performance on the court. This Creighton team made the move to Big East possible. That could be a defining accomplishment in CU basketball history, possibly worth more than a S16. time will tell.

This Creighton team didn't make the move to the Big East possible. 14 years of on-court consistency made it possible. One of the bigger average attendances in the NCAA made it possible. Large picture, this team had very little to do with it ... one good year doesn't do much for a program. Consistency does.

And yes, I'd take a move to the Big East over the Sweet 16 any day of the week.

However, anyone arguing that a conference championship beats a Sweet 16 is so biased it honestly makes me laugh to read it. Here's the thing ... Round of 32 doesn't really mean very much. Whether you lose in the 64 or 32, it's essentially the same thing. You start hanging banners with the Sweet 16. A conference championship trumps one win in the NCAA tournament, but not ANY win. Wins are progressively harder in the tournament, and a Sweet 16 bid is worth multiple first round wins. If Wichita wins this next game, awesome, because an Elite 8 bid is worth multiple Sweet 16 bids -- you don't just count wins and go "Yeah, Wichita made the Elite 8 with three wins, but Creighton won 3 NCAA games, too, so it's basically the same thing." But if they don't make it, that Sweet 16 banner is still going in the rafters, and we still had an amazing year. Just as we did in 2006. Just as Creighton did in 1974.

McDermott's a national player of the year candidate. He'd be getting national media coverage whether Creighton won the MVC or not.

Does anyone hang sweet sixteen banners in their arena? (all jokes about CU not needing one aside). Everyone hangs conference championship banners and tournament championship banners. They hang final four banners and of course championship banners. But sweet sixteen banners? Just asking.

Can you name the mid-major sweet sixteen teams from even two years ago who didn't make at least the regional finals? I would give my pinkie toe for an NCAA run, and if the choice was the conference titles or a final four - or even elite 8, I might take those NCAA runs. But between a sweet sixteen and walking away from the MVC having swept the conference and tourney titles, I greatly prefer having taken those trophies with us out the door.

And the answer is without a doubt WSU. The NCAA tournament means much much more than the regular season.

I know WSU has their sweet 16 banner hanging in Koch. I guess i always figured schools that don't make it there that often usually hang them, schools like kansas, duke etc don't hang them.
