On the bright side, at least for Aces fans, we won't be first in line when people start talking about kicking someone out if ORU or UMKC are really the two picks.

Not really an issue of investment.

Looks like #MVC will choose between #ORU and #UMKC. Need to expand their footprint back into the Tulsa area, and help conference recruiting.

Hmmm...that's interesting. The Valley will choose between ORU and Kansas City when they are in the PROCESS of conducting interviews with UIC, Loyola and Valparaiso this week (week of 4/1-4/5). ORU and UMKC were the first two interviewees. Some people should not be in the business of dispensing information.

It is. If UMKC were capable of spending $2-4 million a year, building a 5000-1000 seat stadium, and paying $500,000 or more for their head coach they could be great addition to the league. None of that is true, and thus they simply won't be able to compete.

They were spending $1.9 mil as of two years ago, and they just doubled the coach's salary. I'd say they're close to your figure.

Already have one of those.

...and paying $500,000 or more for their head coach

Why? Kareem Richardson is the envy of most MVC schools, at half the price.

They may not need to pay him more than $500K now, but if they get a hint of success, they will need to be able to pay him that much to stay.

From what I understand:

UMKC spends under $1.9 million on men's basketball per year ($11.7 million total for athletics)

UMKC announced in 2010 they would be playing in a renovated Swinney Recreation Center (Capacity: <2,500) instead of the Municipal Auditorium (7,500)

Richardson originally signed for $250,000, and I haven't heard of them doubling it
In comparison, the top schools in the Valley are spending around $4 million a year for men's basketball, $15-20 million for athletics in general, have average attendances over 10,000, and pay their coaches greater than $1 million a year. The low spenders in the conference are spending in the range I described.

To be fair.... I think that UMKC is moving back to the Municipal Auditorium next year.
