I think getting a neutral court game against KSU as one of 2 MVC teams in a marquee event is a pretty good pull for a squad coming off an 11-22 season.
Well coming off your 11-20 season a few years ago you guys figured out a way to play ranked Georgetown and Michigan St the next year so it can be done. We just had a bad year and most people know we will be much better next year after starting 4 frosh a lot this year and getting Gulley back.
Those games were part of an exempt tournament featuring 8 teams- playing us was a necessary evil so that those teams could move on to better foes. Georgetown, for example, would have never agreed to a one off neutral court showdown against us that season without more to gain (like a matchup against Michigan State the next day).
I think you are taking this as a slight when that's not how I mean it. For example, if Minnesota agreed to play a neutral court game next season against Central Michigan in Chicago, I'm pretty sure everyone would think "Damn, Central Michigan made out pretty well in that arrangement." If the game were the first-round of the Preseason NIT or something, it would be less noteworthy because Minnesota has more to gain than just playing CMU.
I hope it works out.
