I used the data from the NCAA, I don't think that they have released the data for this past year.

Most schools list their attendance in their stats.

http://www.goracers.com/custompages/Stats/MBB/2012-13/teamcume.htm

Those don't look too good, but they aren't horrible. The thing is, they haven't had a high attendance for an extended period of time so it's hard to tell if this is a fluke or something hat will be continual.

They numbers aren't horrible when compared to a school lik UM-KC, but compared to the MVC, they are pretty bad.

ISU rebounded (no pun intended) from last year with attendance. 104,655 fans in 16 games for an average of 6540.9375 fans a game.

Going off of last years numbers it would be good enough to place Illinois State 79th overall for average attendance.

It should also be noted that Illinois State is one of the few schools that reports attendance as actual "butts in the seats" and not tickets sold.

That's good to hear, the Bradley game only had 8,417 in attendance, I wouldn't doubt if the rest of the tickets were sold.

How do you know this?

Why does IlSU put itself at an automatic disadvantage like that? Is there any positive? Does this also mean IlSU has never had a capacity crowd?

Yeah, that wouldn't make any sense. There would be no reason to be the only one reporting it differently. Would do nothing but hurt their program.

They have. I've seen games that were packed.

I go to UIC all of the time for student presentations and student recruitment....DePaul is also a city campus nothing special and that is why they have played their games in Rosemont for years. Though hard to compare
the Chicago Medical District area with Lincoln Park as a neighborhood. It's kinda like as comparing Wrigley field to US Cellular....people still feel the later is in a dangerous area even if it is not really true this is the same preception people have about UIC. The bottom line is people might be drawn to this team if they started winning and making the NCAA's but they have no basketball tradition presently. Is the Valley willing to take the chance or are there better choices.

ISU has always reported attendance that way. I asked the AD in charge of reporting it and he said the school has always taken the stance that attendance means the people at the game, not the one's who bought tickets but didn't show for whatever reason. Something along the lines of calling a spade a spade.

For Redbird Arena there have been games where attendance were listed as capacity, when in fact there were fans standing room only. I asked him about that, and he said that had to do with the FIre Marshall and that is why they didn't want to bring attention to themselves by listing an attendance over capacity. Living in Normal, Illinois you have to put up with some interesting relationships with the townies.

I have thought more about this.....what is the downside of waiting? None of the options out there seem to be very good. Would not all of these same teams be available to add after next season? Maybe being hasty would result in a poor choice. The Valley has always been conservative to a fault. Now might be the time to continue with that Philosophy...or not? Take a chance on one of this group or stand pat? Like a hard 16 at the Black Jack table.

I can understand that, I guess. I never had a problem with a townie before, though.

If we could take a team or two for a "trial run" of a year that would be nice.
