I'm a huge NMSU Aggie fan and have been recently following MVC basketball and I would absolutely love to see NMSU in your conference. What do you think about this? Could the be a possibility.
And I would love it if you could join www.aggienation.webs.com it's my up and coming Aggie fan website and need people to join.

Thanks for stopping in. I like your athletic department. Coach Menzies and Coach Ward are pretty darn good. If you were to become a realistic candidate I'd love it for men's basketball and baseball. Geography is really tough but I hear Las Cruces is nice.

Would really like to see it happen.

I think NMSU and UIC would balance each other out well as far as markets and quality of sports went. Still think we need to go to 12 and use NMSU to balance out whatever long-term-project we're bringing in with the hope that they get up to snuff at some point.

If it weren't for the distance your program would be a great addition to our conference.

I think that is the problem for the MVC, they are a good conference, I'm sure (viable) schools want to join, the distance is just too much.

Same distance from Las Cruces to Wichita as Wichita to Chicago.

We're only interested in geography to one side of this conference.

Yeah, but Las Cruces to Terre Haute or Evansville? The current center of the conference is roughly Columbia, Missouri.

lol, give me a break.

Wichita would be the furthest away from Chicago, and the closest to Las Cruces.

While NMSU has a history with the league, that was in the pre-Title IX accountability days when only football and basketball mattered. However, now you are making that trip in 14+ sports and several schools no longer have football-level budgets.

I think WSU fans would love NMSU in the Valley.

The problem is that the eastern schools have to watch their travel budgets pretty closely and probably couldn't afford adding travel to NM. they would all vote against NM. My understanding is that it takes 7 of the 9 schools to vote to accept a new member. I don't see any possibility of NM getting 7 votes. Too many strapped athletic departments to add that kind of an expense to their current situations.

New Mexico St would make better sense in a 12-team configuration where you add another western team or 2 (Oral Bob, Denver? Texas-Arlington and UALR maybe even, but probably not now that the Sun Belt is solidifying). That way you have a western bloc of Wichita, NMSU, Oral Bob, Denver, etc where travel for the eastern schools are more limited.
