Altman convinced him to stay and then drastically cut his minutes from the previous year. I introduced Armstead to another fan who didn't recognize him at a WSU event. I said that Armstead "wanted to play for someone who hated Altman as much as he did". Armstead got big grin on his face and said, "you got that right". Plus, Armstead's one year of JuCo ball was at Chipola when Greg Heiar (WSU asst. coach) was the coach at Chipola.

It wouldn't surprise me if Altman refused to release Armstead, forcing Armsteaed to pay his own way no matter where he went.

This is factually incorrect.

Dana did talk Armstead into staying DA's first year. That part is true. However, the rest is a complete fabrication.

After that first year, Dana wanted Armstead to leave. And told him to do so. Dana didn't refuse to release Armstead (that is absolutely made up) because Dana wanted him out of there. The rumors that I've heard were that Armstead had essentially flunked out and the staff was sick and tired of having to babysit him 24/7 (making sure that he went to class daily, did his homework, etc). Because of the academic concerns, Armstead did not have a lot of schools lining up to pay two years so that he could play one. Armstead got in touch with his JUCO coach (Heiar) who agreed to put in a good word for Armstead with Marshall, but even Heiar couldn't get Marshall to give Armstead a scholarship for the year he was required to sit out (perhaps - and this is total speculation by me - because Marshall wasn't sure that Armstead would even be able to get his academics in order during that year).

That is how he ended up at WSU.

Impressive.

Great job calling him a liar for making assumptions without evidence and then doing the exact same thing yourself.

Are you even capable of seeing the hypocrisy here?

You would you feel if people said similar things about a player that just happened to get released from UNI to play for Creighton?

I hear he got released because the coach got tired of his diva attitude (not to mention his academic problems!). Obviously he didn't have a bunch of schools lining up to give him a scholarship, so he got a family member to get him a scholarship for Creighton. Even Creighton didn't want to give him a scholarship, but his dad was a pretty powerful man at the school (though even he had concerns over his academics).

That is how Doug ended up at CU.

Same number of "facts" as the post I quoted.

Why are Creighton fans still posting here?

Nope.

You have had a pretty embarrassing last four months on here, I think it's time to throw in the towel.

I know this is late but I just wanted to throw something out there about the JUCO recruting by Marshall. Yes, he has recruited a lot of JUCO players to fill the gaps. But Marshall doesn't just focus on regular JUCO players. He brings in All-Amercian JUCO players when he has to in order to keep the Shockers competitive. He's not willing to let the program slip back for a couple years while he develops young talent. It seems like we're gradually weaning off the JUCOs and I can see us being in a place 3-4 years from now (if Marshall is still here) where we have very few JUCO guys on the roster. Examples of JUCOs Marshall has brought in:

Clevin Hannah - 1st team ALL MVC
Joe Ragland - JUCO 1st Team AA - 1st team all mvc
Ben Smith - JUCO 2nd team AA, 2 yr starter
Carl Hall - JUCO 1st team AA, 2nd team all mvc
Cleanthony Early - JUCO 1st team AA, 1st team all mvc
Nick Wiggins - JUCO 2nd team AA, TBD
Darius Carter - JUCO AA 1st team, coming in next year

I think the results have been pretty good. He's built a reputation of being a program where JUCO guys can thrive and develop into very good D1 players. That's why he's able to continue to land some of the top JUCO talent and it's hard to pass up on some of these guys when you have a void to fill.

Considering the various versions of Armstead's trfr that popped up in Wichita and in Omaha, there's another possibility. Perhaps Armstead needed a year to get his academics in order. That would explain a walk-on year.

The part about Armstead disliking Altman is very, very true. I don't think there's any question that Armstead wanted out when Altman arrived. It can be easily demonstrated that Armstead's minutes went way down under Altman. Maybe the tension between coach and player was involved in academic issues, if such issues existed.

Maybe Altman was sick nd tired of baby-sitting armstead. Maybe the reason he had to do that was because of the total douchery Altman showed in handling Armstead.

All I really know as an absolute fact that cannot be denied is this: Marshall and his staff were willing to baby-sit Armstead 24/7, if that was, indeed, required. Obviously, Altman wasn't. Marshall and his staff watched Armstead lead them to a F4, and some huge incentive bonuses. Altman did not.

Armstead was a key contributor to adding about $288,000 to Greg Marshall's paycheck during post-season play. WSU fans are delighted to see that Altman is still not willing to do some of the things a winning coach needs to do. That includes baby-sitting (Marshall actually achieved that through discipline - not baby sitting) a player 24/7 if that's needed (Armstead) and not letting a prima donna take over the team, not be disciplined, and totllay disrupting a team (Stinnett).

Gregg Marshall is not a babysitter. If you don't go to class and maintain your grades you don't play.. period. Malcolm ArmSTUD started every game this year for the Shockers so either 1) He had a major coming to Jesus, or 2) the BJ explanation is not completely factual. All I know is.. there isn't a team in the country that wouldn't have loved for ArmSTUD to be starting for them.

I have absolutely no problem with us bringing in a first team All American JUCO player every year in the future. There is no denying the impact of those players.

We might have been kind of forced into it when it began, but there is no arguing with results. As our four-year recruits step up in quality, they'll naturally fall off ... but we wouldn't be at this level without the Juco players we brought in.
