They have a "leg up" in streaming because Horizon games aren't on TV. Anyone can stream all of their games for free if they choose to do so, but its going to come about at the expense of being on TV, or because nobody will put you on TV.

Almost all Valley games are on ESPN3.

However, those are also probably blacked out a lot in Valley markets. I'm in Hawaii so I can watch all WSU games easily.

I don't think it takes them necessarily 10 years. They could easily fire Moser and throw seven figures at the next Andy Enfield or whoever and be relevant in 3-4 years. Why admit Belmont when you can admit the school who can hire away the Belmont coach?

The way I see it, the MVC had two reasonable choices:

1. Pick a school with a team that's good now but with no reasonable plan to recover if it hits hard times. Murray State is good now, but it's on its second coach in 3 years. What if after another good year its coach leaves for a Mountain West school that could double his salary? It would promote from within again, which might work or it might not. Ask SIU about that.

2. Pick a school with the resources and will to become good in the future. Loyola and Denver can hire away the best and brightest, and pay them enough so they don't jump when they taste success. Even if a BCS school gives them money they can't match, they would have a better applicant pool than Murray or ORU.

The MVC needs schools that can and will invest in order to grow, and fewer schools that hire BCS assistants with no coaching experience and hope for the best.

I fully agree with almost all of that ... however, Loyola isn't suddenly rich. They already had this money, and they've never chosen to commit the funds to their basketball program before. We're assuming a sudden reversal in their spending. What coaches have they chosen to pay seven figures to? What coach have they stolen away? Their current coach failed at Illinois State.

Again, potential is awesome, but potential needs a commitment to being realized, and Loyola has not had that commitment. I'll believe they have that commitment when I see it.

I'm sure they told the Valley that they're committed now, and they're going to spend the money ... but what guarantees do we have? Do we kick them out if they don't start spending money? The Marlins told everyone they were going to spend money, too ... and they did for one whole year

Endowments are great and all, but they absolutely do not imply a commitment to spending money on athletics, in any way. Actions show a commitment.

I would have preferred we dealt with "potential" by requiring schools to show a commitment to spending, establishing benchmarks for the next three years to meet before being brought in. RPI improvement, SOS improvement, attendance improvement, increasing spending, etc. Show us instead of tell us. Instead we took the opposite approach.

Good lord. Everyone needs to settle down, and stop being outraged just for the sake of being outraged. You know damn well not a single one of you would have been "happy" with whomever got chosen. The fact is, there wasn't a real shiny school out there for the Valley to grab.

Really? I could have sworn I gave a list of five schools that I would have been more than happy to have join. Denver, ORU, Belmont, Valpo, Murray State.

Most people would have been happy with one of those five.

You mean the misery of a conference tournament that a league like the Pac-12 would be jealous of? Nothing miserable about it.

I mean the misery of a tournament that my team is consistently good enough to win and yet never wins. Keep up.

The misery of a tournament where the regular season conference champion and the conference tournament champion are almost never the same, in a less self-deprecating sense. I think it's only happened ... what, three times in the last decade? This year, 20010, 2008?

Some would say that's because Arch Madness is an incredible tournament that anyone can win in a given year. I think that's hogwash.
