SDSU made the NCAA's this year. That got them on an interactive national map that showed the athletic department revenues and expenses for basketball by merely rolling a mouse over the location of the school.

Maybe the Dakotas have been dominating the NCAA invites in their league (are they in the Horizon?? - I've never cared enough to know for sure), but SDSU's revenues and expenses for basketball were under $1 mill. That's in the range of the salaries and perks for the coaching staffs of the serious MVC teams.

Maybe SDSU got big bang for bucks that turned into an NCAA invite and a one-and-done once they got there. There seem to be about 20 leagues that get a one-and-done invite every year.

Now that the MVC can throw out CU's dismal performances in the NCAA's, the MVC may have a winning record in the NCAA's in the last 10 - 15 years. BU has a S16, SIU has 2 S16's, UNI has a S16, WSU has a S16 and a F4.

That's almost half the league with a S16 on their resume in the last 10 or so years. Yeah, we really fear the HL catching the MVC. CU's departure actually seems to improve the MVC's overall W/L record in the NCAA's.

The Summit barely-a-League. As of July 1, TSL will have 8 members in Indiana, Illinois, Nebraska, the Dakotas and Colorado.

The Summit will no longer exist in a year or two, with the loss of Oakland they now have 4 eligible baseball teams. UN-O won't count as a team until 2014-2015. They have 2 years to find a team or two who wants to play baseball in a league that requires travel to nearly the end of the earth, and when they do get there they'll either have to cancel the series due to snow or move it to another state, where baseball can be played.

today IUPUI announced their home games will be played in a new arena at the state fairgrounds in Indy. Here is the link, it will seat 9000

I truly believe this upgrade may give IUPUI the edge to join the Horizon League in a year or two. If the Horizon does not add another team to get to 10 this year, then between IUPUI and IPFW one of those schools may be invited to the Horizon. IPFW is still lacking a quality BB arena. So we'll see what the Horizon does. Maybe they add Northern Kentucky? The A-Sun looks like it may be in trouble as well. Maybe the Indiana schools get added to the A-Sun? Who knows? They are now the outliers in the Summit and have got to be looking to get out asap, especially with Oakland gone. This is not over by any means

I would love nothing more than for the Horizon to become a league of also-ran directional schools. Hopefully Detroit can correct their financial situation so they can bolt. Valpo...well, I certainly hope they find a new home. The leadership of the Horizon is terrible.

Not technically a new arena, the Pepsi Coliseum is more like a hundred-year-old arena that is newly renovated and hopefully will no longer house swine during the State Fair.

I do think the Horizon would like to have a member in Indianapolis again, so IUPUI probably won't stay in the Summit forever. And if they leave, IPFW would be stupid to stay without anything you might call a travel partner.

...the Oakland Golden Grizzlies? That's cute.

They were real impressive in DII, so congratulations on getting them, but I'll take Loyola, thanks.

I would be shocked if IUPUI doesn't end up in the Horizon.

Summit is in trouble. They're losing all of their eastern footholds, and they're running out of D2 teams that are interested in moving up (Bellarmine's gotta get going sooner or later, but they're about it in terms of interest). Atlantic Sun's in trouble too, although it seems like there's more D2 schools in the southeast that wanna move up.

The ASun is fine as long as no other conference raids their membership.

The Horizon and the Summit both have a problem, especially if the Valley goes to 12.

The MVFC will not be stable unless the Summit League is stable. Is a stable MVFC needed the keep the MVC stable?

Probably not. MVC was stable when there was no such thing as the MVFC.
