Congrats on the awards. I think it might be more meaningful if there was a point scale though and fans and schools may actually give it the notice that is deserves. Cross Country and golf shouldn't be weighted the same as basketball. Maybe have the top 4-5 sports (Mens and womens basketball, baseball, volleyball, soccer) count as 2x value?

The award is designed to reward a school for being well-rounded and excellent in all sports. It has nothing to do with getting the fans to care.

Interestingly, the Capital One Cup for college sports does weight the sports differently, though. I believe sports like football, basketball, baseball, and cross country get a 3-to-1 advantage over sports like golf.
