Are they backing it up?

As long as we don't lose to Alabama A&M, I'll call our season a success.

Your first team didn't win the league last year..... I would say the shockers haven't met that expectation yet. Remind me how Kangaroo balls taste again.

In regards to your first post, in which I failed to bring up... WSU always has a target on their backs. Everybody wants to beat us. WSU was ranked in the Top 25 by the beginning of December and was in and out of it throughout. They lead the league for the majority of the year. Sounds like they were pretty big targets last year. In fact, WSU easily has the best Valley record and overall record over the last 3 years combined. Not even close really. I think they've established themselves as a yearly target and have performed fairly well, averaging about 27 wins in that stretch.

Remind me again what that first team did do last year though? They did something no other Valley team has done in 34 years. I'd say that was ok.

Kangaroo balls? Good one. I bet if you asked a random college basketball fan what's the first thing that comes to mind when mentioning "Wichita State", they'd probably say "Final Four". Ask that same fan what comes to mind when mentioning "Missouri State", they'd probably pause for a moment, ponder, and then maybe utter a "Jackie Stiles" or something like that. The women's program would still be more remembered than anything the men's program has done, considering Bill Clinton was still the president the last time the big boys danced.

And by the way, glm, you have been the most reasonable, level-headed Bear poster here and I commend you for that. I'm really not into slamming other teams, but find myself compelled to do so when one of your own comes in here, coming off a play-in season, and starts to try to disassemble WSU in the slightest and most subtle of ways.

glm38 wrote:RLH I don't think I'm exaggerating the last few min at all. But I'm not going to look it up. Agree to disagree I guess. And you were missing 2 starters but we were missing one too and ours was probably our best player (Gully) .

Not sure why you feel the need to continually berate the Bears. But if it makes you feel better have at it. We know we were totally wretched in the non con. But our young guys really came around in the conference and were competitive almost every game.

I checked the ESPN play-by-play to be sure.

The tournament game: MoSt trailed between 6-and-11 for the final 6:30. They did manage to tie it as late as the 8 minute mark, so I exaggerated the final ten minutes thing a bit. The January game: WSU was up by 9 with 10 to play. MoSt never got it closer than 6, and it ranged from 8-to-12 the final five minutes. It took a MoSt jumper with 8 seconds left to get it to only lose by 10.

I feel the need to berate the Bears because there are multiple Bears fans in here berating WSU while talking up their own stats. If MoSt fans are going to legitimately attempt to bring up their own stats trying to prove why they're going to be a contender next year, it's perfectly reasonable for me to show that the stats last year had MoSt as the single worst team in the conference and it's an absurd premise that MoSt will magically become a contender next season. You're going to be much improved, but you're still a few years away from contending. Marshall's a very good player; I'd be looking towards his junior or senior years. I've regularly said I expect MoSt to be in the 4-6 range next season, so I certainly don't think you're going to be bad. I've had no reason to berate the Bears until this thread gave me a reason to.

I don't mean it as an insult to you. I'd echo the opinion above about your posts being reasonable and respectful, even if you're criticizing WSU. I don't mind criticism, or noting question marks for the team next year ... I mind the blatant trolling and jealous attacks in here, and the absurd over-confidence about a team that was quite bad last year.

Yeah, I also don't quite understand the sheer confidence/arrogance, and the need for talking down other teams by fans of a team that was hovering in the 330's in the RPI for a good chunk of the year last year. Yes, the 330's of the RPI. That is HARD to do, even if you're a SWAC school.

This thread is interesting. There seems to be an idea here that no thread can be started about WSU without it being arrogant and needing to be attacked as such. And yet the only difference between this thread and one started about IlSU recently is that this one was actually detailed.

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3128

UNI fans have threads on here about their court renovations and their recruiting, but that's not seen as arrogant. So why does this thread about WSU need to be a non-stop attack but no one flips out about the "arrogance" of starting a thread purely about another team?

If you think MoSt is going to be good next year, here's a novel idea ... go start a thread about what your team is going to look like next year.

WSU has a good team. WSU fans have every reason to feel confident about the quality of the team and the direction of it. There is a significant amount of jealousy and a noticeable inferiority complex here that turns every single thread about WSU into an eight page fight.

Usually when someone starts a thread, they are inviting comment and discussion. What you are choosing to call criticisms in most cases were simply pretty benign comments about areas that WSU might have concerns in. Almost all were usually attached to other statements about WSU being the clear favorites . As usual once you turned hyper defensive about even the hint that WSU might have an area of concern and began attacking, things got more negative on both sides. I really can't fathom what else you expected in such a thread; the only reason it became an 8 page fight is the majority of the posts are by hyper sensitive WSU fans pissing and moaning about even the hint of areas of concern for the Shox. I'm neither jeolous or insecure about WSU; they're just another team. If I was, I would probably do something like inferring comments that weren't made in the first place to give me a reason to post multiple times on top of my own posts to further see myself in print. But then that would reflect insecurity. Looking forward to your next novel.

The sort of posting you're talking about, I think I see it a lot around here. It's not coming from you, though.

Not insecure or jealous, but it takes two sides to turn this thing into a 6, not 8 for the numerically challenged, page thread, and yet here you are still going with it.

Keep it coming.

Once again, the butter continues to churn.

If there ever was a time to google a picture of a pot meeting a kettle and then creatively posting it here, this would be it.
