Last year he came in with an experienced team but they under-performed. He's proven he's a great recruiter excited about the future! But we see this year how good of a coach he is with a new young team

Both Muller and Lusk have a lot to prove this coming year.

I think Muller gets a bit of a bye this year because of the influx, then better show vast improvement the following. That's where Lusk is this year; he blew it up last year, now he has to show significant progress or things get tight.

Bears77 I agree somewhat. But Lusk didn't totally get a pass last year. I really think if our conference season had continued like our non con ended up he might have been gone. And rightfully so. And conversely Muller just flat out failed with a VERY talented group. If he cant show some improvement I think hes on the hot seat this year.

Both guys seem intelligent and hardworking. The kind we need in the mvc. So hopefully they both have gained the experience they need and can show what they can do. Both have quite a bit of talent to work with this year.

I said it in another thread, but I think the Redbirds, with a loan senior, are a year away. It will take some time for the new guys to learn the offense and the adjustment to D-I will be difficult with so few guys having had that experience. With Muller as a young and passionate coach, I expect the talented newcomers to compete hard and showcase their abilities, but I don't believe that will translate into wins.

Assuming Muller was a good hire (and there is no reason to assume he wasn't) then he is well on his way to success, bringing in talented players that fit his system. IMO, Redbird fans should hope for the best in 13-14 but be prepared for a roller coaster ride of inconsistency. This team is built to win in 14-15. If Muller fails there, his tenure as a head coach will end abruptly.

Lusk did have the benefit of Downing last year and Gulley this year. I'm not so sure that there is a Downing or Gulley left over from what Muller blew up.

In my estimation, Lusk has now brought in his team. Assuming the Bears have a solid big to go along with Kirk (the two 6-10 underclassmen have potential) they will be primed to compete for an MVC championship in 2014-15.

The Missouri Valley needs Illinois State to be better than it has been over the last decade. Every program in the conference needs to step it up just a bit more than the past to make up for Creighton's departure.

Slightly off topic, but don't expect any quick-trigger firings from our new athletic director. He comes from a background in athletic finance and knows about all there is to know about Redbird athletics. I expect a very conservative tenure that will let unsuccessful coaches work until the end of their contracts.
