BEARZ77 wrote:Usually when someone starts a thread, they are inviting comment and discussion. What you are choosing to call criticisms in most cases were simply pretty benign comments about areas that WSU might have concerns in. Almost all were usually attached to other statements about WSU being the clear favorites . As usual once you turned hyper defensive about even the hint that WSU might have an area of concern and began attacking, things got more negative on both sides. I really can't fathom what else you expected in such a thread; the only reason it became an 8 page fight is the majority of the posts are by hyper sensitive WSU fans pissing and moaning about even the hint of areas of concern for the Shox. I'm neither jeolous or insecure about WSU; they're just another team. If I was, I would probably do something like inferring comments that weren't made in the first place to give me a reason to post multiple times on top of my own posts to further see myself in print. But then that would reflect insecurity. Looking forward to your next novel.

Your "benign comments" were scattered with the illogical argument that questions about WSU are relevant while questions about UNI, MoSt, and others were not. If you had framed your points, like glm did, in a way that says WSU has question marks without becoming a fanboy that white-washed over all of the questions about MoSt in order to argue they would be a contender next year, there wouldn't have been as much disagreement with you. That was what turned a post that would otherwise have been legitimate discussion into a "your team isn't as good as you think it is, but my team ******* rocks" post. You continually framed your criticism of WSU against bragging about MoSt and turned this into a laughable comparison of a team that went to the Final Four with a team that won 11 games.

You want to say we have question marks, awesome, we'll have a discussion about it. If you want to brag about your God awful team, go start your own thread about it, so it can be ignored like every other thread on this forum that isn't about WSU.

BEARZ77 wrote:You want Shocker worship, stay at home and lick your own balls, you want real world discussion then maybe you might be mature enough for a public forum though you don't sound it right yet.

I suggest you reattach yourself to ya mama's teet cause you ain't ready for the real world son.

There must be a great need for remedial reading classes in Wichita, half of what some of you all piss and moan about is not found in any posts .

But if you want to piss and moan about every comment about inexperience or replacement players needing to prove themselves, then like I said, have at it.

I wish we were mature enough to tell people to stay home and lick their balls.

Thanks for staying so mature in this discussion; clearly you have no responsibility for it getting to this point.

Cute comment about "novels" from the guy who has some of the longest posts in this thread. It's always people that have difficulty with spelling or grammar that complain about the length of posts. Looking forward to the next time you make it clear you don't know what a paragraph is.

I'm not sure how I rate a pass from the WSU fans? I dont think my posts are much different? Please stop though. I have an image to protect and can't be percieved as a "Shox lover"

This has been entertaining. Do we really have to wait 5 more months for the season to start? I'm ready NOW. I'm ready for our young Bears to step it up and contend again.

Have you ever seen that Mike Leach rant in the lockerroom after they narrowly beat Baylor in 2009? It basically consisted of him going on for about a minute saying: "That was last season. That wasn't this season. That was last season. That wasn't this season."

That has been in my mind this entire offseason listening to WSU fans. You get that that was last year right?

Sounds like something a Cubs fan would say. You're in good company.

Welcome back though! Has the anguish of baseball finally passed you over enough for you to start posting again?

Speaking of this year, we're going to our 28th regional. How about you? Or is that also already in the past, lol?

WSU"S "first team" didn't participate in the league last year. Two starters (Wessel and Baker) were out for the entire conference season. Hall was out for nearly half the conference season. Orukpe was playing injured through about 1/4 of the conference season. How many teams could lose 2 starters for the season and finish in second, one game behind what was thought to be a top-20 program?

Chemistry issues? Here's the list of players new to the WSU program who need to be integrated into the chemistry of a F4 team:

1) Darius Carter.

That's it - 1 guy. WSU is returning 8 players who averaged 10+ mpg last year. The 9th returning player (Lufile) averaged 7.9. I doubt there will be chemistry problems working 6'7" RSFr wing Derail Green or 6'9" Sr post Kadeem Coleby into the rotation. They were both in the program last year.

To go 3 deep, WSU has to rely on some incoming Fr. It's not realistic to expect a huge problem getting Fr to buy into what's expected of them when they've watched the guys they're playing with go to a F4 and come within a whisker of beating the eventual NC. Winning leads to more winning - unless your coach is named Lowery.

WSU's BBIQ should be improved next year. Armstead and Williams probably cost some games with some ill-advised shot selection and passing attempts. VanVleet, Baker, and Wessel should provide an overall improvement in playing smarter.

Fans of other schools in the league should prepare themselves for something last seen out of SIU about a decade ago. UNI fans seem to have a fairly realistic grasp of the situation - "just wait until the year AFTER next year" - http://www.panthernation.com/showthread.php?t=52813

I fail to see how that random thread on Panthernation has anything to do with Wichita State.

While I do believe that Wichita State should be the favorites and should also be favored to win the Valley by 2 or more games even, to hint at them pulling an SIU 17-1 run I think is a little over the top. The reason I feel that isn't that they aren't going to be a good team with chances of making noise in the NCAA's again, it is that the team is built more for making noise in the NCAA's and against other "BCS" caliber programs/athletes than the more deliberate pace of Valley play.

I think the style in the Valley is such that it will probably lead to 3-4 losses for the Shockers simply by the nature of being in the low-scoring, pace of play type games that will keep Valley opponents in the game and give them a chance to knock higher-paced preference teams off late in close games. This is why WSU has typically struggled with Evansville and UNI (and even SIU). They will still have the blow-outs where everything clicks (such as the UNI at WSU game this last year) but they will also have the close losses (such as the WSU at UNI game this last year). Probably more of the wins than losses, especially non-conference, but in-conference is where they will find a lot of the teams that will really 'deliberate' it up on them and cause issues. 15-3, 14-4, almost certain, 17-1 not as likely, IMO.

And as for the UNI thread, I agree with those that say we are probably going to be really good in two years (once our incoming freshman have a year of seasoning and Jesperson is eligible), but that doesn't me we will be a team of push-overs this year. I see us being the same style of stingy defense and deliberate offense as we have been with how well we shoot being the major factor in whether we win or lose most games.

ESPN has a blurb on "Top 10: Impactful Sophomores for 2013-14.

One of the 10 is a familiar name:
Fred Van Vleet (Wichita State) – Gregg Marshall’s squad will enter next season as the clear favorite to win the Missouri Valley Conference. Ron Baker, Cleanthony Early and Van Vleet return to a program that surprised the nation with a run to the Final Four in April. With point guard Malcolm Armstead gone, Van Vleet steps into his slot as starting point guard. Van Vleet (4.3 PPG, 2.3 APG) flourished in spurts last season. But his effort against Ohio State in the Elite Eight (4 for 8, 12 points, two steals, three rebounds and two assists) provided evidence that the young guard will not be intimidated with a more significant role next season. His postseason experience made him more confident. The latter is crucial, especially for a young point guard.
