See, my problem with UMKC is less their lack of athletic success and more the fact they seem to be attached to the hip to UM-C. From what I gather they don't even have a separate endowment, which means if they ever wanted to build a new practice facility or give their coaches raises it needs to be approved by a board full of UM-C people. Correct me if I'm wrong. Imagine if a board of KU and KSU alums had to approve Gregg Marshall's $1.5MM salary. He'd be long gone.

And even though it's the only game in town, isn't it very close to Lawrence and Columbia and full of rabid Kansas and Mizzou fans? That's a problem for Eastern Illinois (in Champaign's shadow) and Eastern Michigan (Ann Arbor). It's tough to develop a fan following with nearby competition like that.

Think I was more classy than either uniftw or shocktheheart.

UNI, and maybe Drake, will fit well in the Illinois River Conference. WSU and MSU will not be invited---but MSU has football and men and women's soccer and will find a conference. WSU has neither sport, and WSU baseball is not what it used to be, and will be forced to be and independent---or maybe join that west coast conference with UMKC.

MVC IN KC AND UMKC IN THE MVC---the best solution--right size, right location, right time .

But, with its law school, engineering school, art and music conservatories, and close downtown location near the Country Club Plaza, UMKC may be a little to refined and upscale for the MVC Cow and AG schools

Again, you can't even make your own argument for why UMKC should join outside of being in KC. The city is all you have to argue for.

I'm sure the MVC would absolutely love to have Kansas City's population in the conference. When your school isn't a complete and utter cesspool of athletics, the MVC would love to have you. Now go spend more time trying to convince UMKC to stop being terrible and less time begging on here for something that won't happen until then.

NOT BEGGING---trying to present a basis for what I think is the best situation for the MVC and UMKC. UMKC will survive in or out of the MVC. Not sure the MVC will continue to be a major mid major in its future east of the Mississippi configuration--way too localized.

One poster said that KC could/would not support a UMKC MVC BB team because it contained rabid KU (30 miles west) and MIZZOU (150 miles east) fan bases. With that type argument, DRAKE in Des Moines should not be in the MVC---too close to AMES and IOWA CITY---now there are some great rabid fans: Iowa State and Iowa.

Funny that all the posters on this forum are willing to accept PROJECT schools/athletics that are located east of the Big Muddy--but not a project school in the west.

As for me, I have no connection with UMKC except that I live in the KC metro area (actually in Kansas) and I would like to see a good resident D1 BB team in KC. Actually, I graduated from SMS (now MO State) a long, long time ago and have been a fan for over 60 years---saw my first SMS BB in 1950. UMKC playing MSU, WSU, Drake, maybe UNI, could possibly come close to filling the new downtown SPRINT Center. Plus, if MVC leaves St Louis, the SPRINT would be a great home for the MVC Tournament.

UMKC is terrible and will not join. Stop wasting your time.

Biggest difference between Loyola and UMKC from a basketball standpoint is that Loyola has a basketball history (including a national championship) and UMKC doesn't. Sure, Loyola has been down for a while, but I think they have a higher potential than UMKC.

I do hope (former Ace) Coach Richardson does well at UMKC, but before the Valley should consider them, I would like to see all of the following criteria met:
1: Independence from Columbia
2: 100+ wins in the next 5 years
3: 3500+ average home attendance in the next 5 years
The preceding lesson in basketball is free of charge.

Honestly though, #1 is a MUST. Is there any other school with that same set up in the conference? I know UNI shares a board of regents with Iowa and Iowa State but I would assume that is the case with the other state schools as well. From the way it sounds with UMKC they are just an also ran in a educational system - see any UNC school other than UNC-CH or any of the UT schools other than UTA.

I'm not a fan of the Loyola addition, but Loyola is far and away a better add than UMKC would have been. UMKC's 1300 fans a game is laughable. Loyola's baksetball history, as you said. Loyola was in a better conference and was a better quality team from day one. Loyola has spent a lot on improving the basketball program in recent years, and now has rather good facilities. Loyola's big advantage in endowment. And the Chicago metro area has, what, four times the population of the KC metro area?

The only point that UMKC is better in is that there aren't as many teams in Missouri as there are in Illinois ... but there's already one, so it doesn't even open a new state.

There isn't one single thing UMKC would have over Loyola. And Loyola was already a controversial add.

The Big East is not going past 10.

If the Valley wants Saint Louis and Dayton, they'll be readily available.

I think everybody would win in that case.
