I think he'll eventually finish his career at Cleveland State.

He's a big, athletic stretch 4 with a very high ceiling. He originally verballed to Creighton, then to WSU. An LOI was signed, but Teddy was not eligible. He was placed in a prep school and re-verballed to WSU. At some point he dropped out of prep school and verballed to Dana Ford at Illinois St (who was lead recruiter for Hawkins at WSU)...

Help me understand

Signed a LOI to play at WSU in 2012-2013:
He did not play for them in 2012 and 2013, would that not be year 1?
He is ineligible in 2013-2014, wouldn't that be year 2? (technically his first year towards his 5 to play 4)

He never re-signed a LOI for 2013-2014, but gave a verbal and I didn't think that counted against the transfer rule does it?

Why does he have to sit out at all or is it because his first year of eligibility is this year?

They added Doug McDs transfer year onto Teddy.

Seriously though, no one completely understands how the 2 year rule works in this situation as evident by the bizarro ruling.

Here is the rule according to the pantagraph

The MVC intra-conference transfer states a student-athlete who signs a national letter of intent with one Valley school can’t play for another league member for two years after first attending collegiate classes unless given a waiver by the initial school for all or part of the two-year period.

This is ridiculous and hilarious for so many reasons.

1) Elgin is literally making up the rules as he goes.

2) The kid can't get into WSU. This is a a school that accepts over 95% of all applicants.

3) After careful thought and consideration, the person in charge of our league decides the proper punishment is making the kid sit out two regular season games against WSU.

4) The kid has yet to academically qualify at ISUred.

Elgin had nothing to with this.

What a joke to hear from Kyle coming from the Harvard of Northern Iowa. :bounce:

The only reason you get 90% of your basketball players from Iowa is because your athletic department can't afford the funding to recruit farther than 100 miles from NIU.

valleychamp wrote:What? Lol, this has nothing to do with WSU's title chances and everything to do with the utter silliness of the ruling itself. Just plain making up rules and consequences as they go along. This is indefensible. The league should be embarassed and ashamed.

Just try and say it out loud without laughing. They are making him sit only when he plays one particular team. LOL, its asinine.

I agree. This is my problem with the NCAA in general.

You can't just make up rules. It's insane to me the amount of gray area there is in the rulebooks of the NCAA and the conferences. Just make a damn rule and list a range of possible punishments. That way you can still choose from that range to take care of extenuating circumstances.

I guess technically he was given a waiver for part of the two-year period -- the part where they aren't playing WSU ;)

This bothers me on the Valley end, but I think it's a hilarious solution by WSU. We've essentially helped out Illinois State in their nonconference, which will be benefit WSU (RPI and conference perception), but also kept him from being used against us. Some WSU fans had a problem with refusing the waiver strictly on Illinois State being better is good for our RPI. We got it both ways.

This is the best way Marshall could have possibly played this. I just think it's ridiculous the Valley let him get away with it.
