If it was a non-conference situation where the schools play each other once, I could maybe understand that. But for a conference foe? It's unheard of.

Either grant the waiver and move on, or don't grant it.

Did Teddy enroll at UNI? Kinda funny that you have more UNI fans concerned about this than any other fanbase, including Illinois State's.

A conference foe? Really? There's a reason why it's a 2-year sit out period for CONFERENCE FOES. Illinois State fans should be happy he's even playing. But of course, they think Marshall is a dick for making him sit out 2 games against a team Teddy decommitted to. If I was Marshall, I would have said eff Illinois State and made him sit the full 2 years, especially with how Illinois State has handled themselves lately.

I didn't think a fanbase could rival Creighton's in terms of whinyness and idiocy, but Illinois State's fanbase is approaching that level. You get a gift and they still b*tch and moan about it. Unbelievable.

We got a sweet deal considering all of the alternatives.
Teddy looked like a baller when I saw him this summer at open gyms.
Also worth noting that Teddy will be a very old senior IF (big if) he gets himself that far.

Why would Illinois State be upset? They get to use this guy as they try to rebuild. I think UNI fans are questioning this because we represent the schools who are likely to be challenging WSU for titles the next few years. If this guy becomes all conference and WSU doesn't have to face him while their closest challengers in a conference team race do, to me, that's a problem.

Cdizzle says it's not unheard of. Can anyone provide an example of a player being granted an in-conference release that allows him to play against every school except one?

I don't begrudge WSU for asking, but it seems really silly the Valley office would agree to this.

I haven't brought up Doug McDermott, but it seems everyone else has. If UNI had asked for and received such a restriction I think we would have swept the Jays the past couple of seasons instead of splitting with them. How would WSU fans have felt about that?

Dougie never won in Cedar Falls so I don't really give two flying F's about the McDermott situation anymore.

However, it really does seem the MVC needs to re-think/re-write/clarify what the damn rules are

Well if that's what someone on the Redbird board thinks ... ;)

You're taking as much for granted as I am in thinking that Marshall didn't have anything to do with it. I don't really care either way who was responsible for it. I do think it's the best possible outcome on WSU's end. Regardless of who set it up, it's still hilarious that they came to a solution that I've never seen before and is the best possible outcome I could think of for WSU on this issue.

And since when would Marshall care about pissing off the other teams in the Valley?

This. For you (Cdizzle) to make a statement like that means you must have more knowledge on this subject than others. Feel free to share the info with the class ;)

Interesting. Two coaches and the league office were involved in this.

The outcome is the best that both coaches could possibly have hoped for. IlSu gets to use Hawkins for all but two games in a year they otherwise would not have been able to use him. WSU gets to have Hawkins play against every team in the conference other than WSU for one year.

All this over a player who put "Education: Creighton" and CU logos all over his Facebook page, even though he didn't have an offer, verballed to about 3 schools, signed an LoI to a different school, didn't graduate from HS with his graduating class, apparently got something resembling his HS degree around August after his HS class graduated, and still had "Education: Creighton" and CU logos all over his Facebook page.

Reaffirmed his commitment to WSU (shortly after school started and he was at the prep school where WSU placed him), reopened his recruitment by announcing a visit to Ohio State (who had no interest in recruiting him), got kicked off the basketball team at semester break, and dropped out of prep school.

Couldn't WSU have just let him play right away without the condition of avoiding the games against them? McDermott didn't have any conditions when UNI let him go to Creighton,

This. Where is the part about a young man learning to live by his decisions? Where is the part about schools preparing a young man for the future?

Two schools win. 8 schools and a young man lose.
