Before you guys get too excited....
No one has even seen what the mascot will look like yet. It could wind up being pretty cool, especially for promotional type stuff (shirts, hats, graphics).
The nickname will stay the Braves, as always, as it should. The gargoyle will be unveiled sometime in January/February I believe when it will make appearances at games. The gargoyle mascot comes from the Gargoyle statues that overlook the campus from the tops of some of the older buildings.
Bradley obviously would like to use the traditional native american mascot that goes with the Braves nickname, but we all know why that cannot happen. Bradley tried a bobcat mascot quite a few years back and it was not well received. This new idea could go the way of the bobcat, or maybe people will like it. We will see. I have a feeling that there will be a direct correlation between the success of the gargoyle and the success of the basketball team. WInning cures all so they say.
And if the gargoyle doesn't work out, at least we're not an unoriginal redbird. Or a sycamore tree.
