Who will be named the 2013-14 MVC Player of the Year?

Our last individual award. Vote for the player that you believe will be named the 2013-14 Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year for men's basketball.

You may vote for up to 3 players. - the Top 5 vote getters will be our preseason All-MVC team.

Last year our users correctly selected Doug McDermott of Creighton and he was awarded the Larry Bird trophy following his All-American season.

I'm curious as to why people vote the way they do for POY. Is it talent? Best player on best team? A combination? Something else?

I tend to vote for the best player on a tier one team, meaning the player that was the most dominant on a team that was in contention at the end of the season.

I picked it based on who I think the best player is and don't take into account how good the team is or will be. If we were doing this at the end of the season, I probably would be biased towards players on the top teams.

I screwed up my voting but I would go Early/Odum/Lemon.

As always around here, a homer poll.

Gee, I wonder who BEARZ picked?

I went with Early. Most likely the best player on the best team. My 2nd and 3rd picks would be Odum and Gulley.

From what I saw in the NCAA's and at Shocker Madness, I'd go Early/Odum/Baker.

I'm aware no one had a scouting report on Baker in the NCAA's, and a scrimmage is not a good measuring stick, but...

...the last 6 times I've seen Baker play, he looked like an All-Valley selection.

At Shocker Madness, Baker was defended by VanVleet and/or Tekele Cotton. That's 2 of the better defensive players in the league. They couldn't stop him. Baker's D was shutting down VanVleet at the hoop - not many defenders were able to do that in the NCAA's. Baker was also one of the leading rebounders in the scrimmage.

Baker has emerged as combo guard. He can play PG, so he should have some assist numbers to go along with some points, some boards, some blocks, and maybe some steals.

Early appears to have been working on the handles to drive from the perimeter to the hoop. If he's got that, he gets the ball at the end of the shot clock. WSU plays some pretty salty D. There was no one on the WSU squad who could stop Early any time Early wanted to score at Shocker Madness. He looked better than he did in the NCAA's.

I went Early/Odum/Tuttle. Tuttle may have been a little bit of a homer pick. I really think it will be either Early or Odum. Early and Odum are just stat sheet fillers. It is going to be hard to ignore them.

It's difficult to imagine someone not on Wichita State winning. That being said, I went with Early and one player from each of the next two teams –Odum and Tuttle.

How are the new rules going to impact Odum, he'll either get to shoot a ton more free throws or the hands off rules won't allow him to act like he's been shot every time he gets touched. If he doesn't get touched, he can't act...
