This all and good for I guess for academic endeavor, but lets face it - whoever wins the MVC regular season will have the POY.

Baker single handedly won the game today with his ability to drive. Gottlieb said Baker is as good off the dribble as he is off the catch.

BEARZ77 hasn't backtracked yet but I am sure that everyone else agrees that his argument is in the dumpster. Baker does everything well.

I don't know who the eventually MVC PoY will be, but Ron Baker is the MVP of WSU's first 8 games, and it isn't close. Four straight games with 20+ points against Saint Louis, BYU, Depaul, and Tulsa. Shooting 58% over that stretch (and thanks to 2-11 shooting against BYU, his 3 point % is dragging that down).

It honestly amazes me watching him how he could have ever ended up as a walk-on at WSU.

Well technically you could say he walked on. However he walked on because WSU was out of scholarships and they promised to redshirt him and then give him a scholarship after his first year. So yes he was a walk on but a walk on guaranteed a scholarship after 1 season.

SDSU and UALR had offered full rides I believe. Pretty sure he wasn't big in AAU during the summer as he also played baseball and football. Without a lot of AAU and being in Scott City, KS you can fly under the radar. Now I'm guessing on the AAU part but being a baseball player and a high school football star doesn't leave much time for a lot of competitive basketball in the summer.

My understanding is Jans saw Baker and told Marshall he had to get him.

I understand how it happened. But getting a player the quality of Baker who flew so under the radar is just incredibly unlikely.

I doubt that happens again at WSU any time in the next few decades.

I highly doubt any school in the MVC including WSU will ever get a player with the abilities of Baker to walk on in the next few decades.

If you'e counting a walk-on as anyone who pays their own way (if only for a year), I guess you can lump Malcolm Armstead and Kadeem Coleby into that group. For that matter, Jamar Howard way back when.

At this juncture, I will be surprised if the POY isn't either Baker or Early. Both are just excellent.

WSU always finds a way. I think it was even more pronounced back in the 1980's, Wichita had Carr and Levingston...then comes Xavier McDaniel. Seemed those guys could have won an NBA championship!
