A little overexuberant after a big OT win over UIC eh? Let the season play out a little before you start bitching.

Considering the coaching change, transfers, and the loss of Ben Simons, Kurt Alexander, and Jordan Clarke to graduation I'd say Drake being 6-1 at this point is a big deal. I agree the season needs to play out and I'm ok with Drake being 4-5 in the MVC power rankings but with that being said please check your facts. UIC was the first game of the season, on the road where Drake won a total of four games last year, and the game certainly did not go into overtime.

I agree that we need to see the season play out, but please excuse Drake fans for being a little bit giddy right now. I don't think anybody expected a 6-1 record at this point, with only 2 home games so far, and only three returning players who played even one second of basketball for Drake during the 2nd semester last season.

While they haven't beaten any big names, they have won at Fresno State, who is picked somewhere toward the middle of the MWC and played a very close game at St. Mary's, who is 6-0. And, other than Iowa Wesleyan, I wouldn't classify anybody they've beaten as a "cupcake".

Not sure what UIC has to do with anything....that was the first game of the season, and it wasn't an OT win.

If there would have been a preseason poll asking which of two outcomes was more likely:

Drake going to 6-1
- or -
Drake going to 1-6

I think Drake going to 1 - 6 would have won in a landslide. Drake is playing way above the expectations of Valley fans.

InSU is the puzzler. I still think they are a lock for 2nd. The loss to Belmont isn't much of a blemish. The loss to Tulsa was unexpected, but every team is going to have unexpected losses. It could just be a coincidence that InSU had one of theirs earlier than some other teams. ND's rank in the top 25 may have been based on the name on the uni's rather than the players in them. ND's SoS is 351, resulting in an RPI of 325. their rpi will go WAY upo once they hit conference play, but there's a lot of room to go up from 325.

I don't think there's a tossup from 2 - 7. I'm thinking MSU and UNI in a fight for 3rd and 4th. Drake and Bradley going for 5th and 6th.

Drake's emergence probably gets Evansville scheduled for a post-season Thursday night game. I don't think the one-trick pony offense they're running is going to be effective against Valley scouting reports.

The way Evansville is running Balentine off screen after screen reminds me of the "phamous phelp's" routine where Ben Simons ran in circles until he threw up or hit a basket. Keep in mind I've only seen Evansville play once this year and it was at Indiana. Please god tell me it was a combination of the worst game E'ville has played all year and Indiana playing lights out because that was hard to watch.

Dean, you may be right but last time I checked this is MVCfans.com. I think the fans of the nine other conference members would like to see where they "supposedly" stand heading into conference play.

FYI…Dean isn't a Shocker backer. I'm interested in seeing what your thoughts are. For me, Power Rankings are who's playing well right now, not necessarily how they'll finish. Here's my take:

1. WSU

2. Indiana State
3. MSU - surprised they are this high
4. UNI
5. Drake - surprised they are this high

6. Illinois State - Coming along faster than anticipated with all of the "adversity" they have faced since last season. Would be much better if Ekey was still there.
7. Evansville - surprised they are this low

8. Bradley - surprised they are this low
9. SIU
10. LUC
