Drake vs. Iowa (Big 4 Classic)

Postby BullHawk0402 » December 6th, 2013, 8:57 am

Drake and #23 Iowa square off tomorrow night @ 7:30p.m. in Des Moines at Wells Fargo Arena. The Dogs are 6-1 and have exceeded everyone's expectations a quarter of the way through their 2013-14 schedule and look to add a quality win to their resume. Iowa is long, athletic, and can virtually score on any team in the country. What do you guys think about the dogs' chances to pull this one out and get a win for the conference?

This would be a huge upset. I don't think, a Drake win is likely, but at least i'm not expecting a blowout like i would have for the past 5 seasons. If Iowa is not shooting well and the Bulldogs are hitting some shots it could be close.

Drakes players will be put in a position to play to their potential and maximize their chances.

This is not how I would describe Iowa. (Mostly) Slow, tall, small verticals, and good fundamentals is probably more apt. They are deserving of their ranking, however, and will be dancing come March.

Drake will need a big effort tonight to steal this one. Go Bulldogs!

I will be stunned if either MVC team keeps it within 10.

Maybe I got a little carried away in describing the hawks as athletic but they certainly are long and are putting up heaps of points night in and night out. Either way I agree with you, the dogs will have to play lights-out to post a dub in the win column.

Could you elaborate a bit on why?

I am hoping the Bulldogs can get some steals for fast breaks, Mix up some defenses. Hit some well timed threes from multiple players. Seems they do these types of things better this year. I believe the Bulldogs will be up for the game, there are some new players that can make an impact and I believe they can pull off a win.
Will be interesting watching Richard Carter against the Hawkeyes.

Is this game being televised or streamed anywhere? I'd like to get a look at Drake.

Drake and Iowa had the same margin of victory over Omaha.

Omaha led most of the game before giving it away in the final minutes.

I realize the Team A beat Team B which beat Team C approach isn't very scientific, but I have not been impressed the two times I have watched Iowa play. I expect Drake to keep it close for a large portion of the game.

What is this event call? The Big Farce Classic? The Big Run-And-Hide-From-Yearly-Meetings Invitational? At least the schools self-proclaimed to be too good for home & homes are playing it on a neutral court.
