More conference realignment sparked by Oral Bob?

No Oral Roberts. No UNO. What has this conference come to, really? Oral Roberts often fields a decent basketball team but the school is an absolute trainwreck. It was just a couple years ago that a GIFT of $50 million literally kept the doors open and lights on in that school. As soon as televangelist donations start drying up, that school will be BANKRUPT.

As for UNO, are they even NCAA postseason-eligible yet? Why are we going after schools transitioning from D2? And a competitive team? Are you looking at the same team I am? UNO has four wins against D1 competition, and those are wins over teams with a combined record against D1 competition of 3-22. 3-22. That's not a typo.

It would also be bad press for the MVC to add the small-time schools from markets that have already left the Valley (basically, swapping Tulsa for ORU in Tulsa and Creighton for UNO in Omaha).

Not gonna happen. The only way they're leaving the A10 is to join the Big East. I'd love to have SLU in the Valley but it just isn't going to happen. It would have happened already (when X and Butler left the A10 last year).

it will be interesting to see what happens in the spring when the wheels of realignment start spinning again. The ORU to SL has no affect on anything really, it's just them moving from 1 low major conference to another low major conference (that they had been in 2 years ago anyway).

I suspect something will happen, will the MVC look for 2 teams to get to 12? Hard telling? I imagine some AD's and presidents want 12, while others are happy with 10.

And then there's the question of who would we add even if we did add a school or two? More from the Horizon League??

I don't know if the shockers would agree but I would love for MSU and WSU to flip the bird to the eastern block.

Nooooo, we already have the Chicago market, remember? I'm thinking the Manhattan Jaspers and UCLA.

It is ridiculous. I tried to keep up for a while and then I decided I just don't care. A team comes to town, I get in my car and go watch the game. It doesn't matter to me what conference they are temporarily in.

:+1: Some have said they find all this realignment fascinating but I just find it tiresome. And I think it all detracts from the game itself.

I do agree with Ag though in that I wish we had offered Oral Bob into the Valley. They are pretty decent as a basketball program.

+2. No idea why people think realignment is fascinating. Personally think it's self-destructive and just instability breeding instability, and lot of schools put themselves and/or their conferences in worse positions because of conference hopping. Some may make more money, but win a lot less. Others are just engaging in one lateral move after another. Guess if fans watch college sports to brag how much revenue their school makes, and could care less about the product they put out, then good for them. Personally would rather watch my teams win, and only change conferences if team has earned a promotion.

And also would've liked to see what ORU could add to the Valley. Good basketball program and most of their other teams are solid, and Tulsa is a good Valley city to be. But weren't a slam dunk. Content to see what Loyola can do. In ORU's case it did make sense to go back to the Summit League, and don't think this particular move is going to spark any kind of widespread realignment.

ORU would have been a solid pickup. They're back on solid financial footing and have successful basketball and baseball programs in a city that the Valley has had success in. Loyola may end up being just fine, but in the short term ORU would have been better for our biggest revenue sport.

I was originally fascinated by it, after Nebraska left the Big XII for the B1G. I was still sort of interested when Syracuse and Pittsburgh left the Big East for the ACC. But by the time the Big East split into the American Association and the Big Priest, I was ready for it to be done.
