Marcus Marshall Overrated? Underrated?

I am a die hard shocker fan. I am also new to this, but besides our guys Marcus Is a real special player. He really caught my eye last year in the valley tournament having two great games against SIU and The shocks. This year before becoming injured he was averaging some solid numbers. I feel with him and the guys MSU brought in this season they will be the most threaten us the most in the valley. Does he get enough credit or maybe to much?

In my view, Marshall is a VERY good player and deserves praise. I think he'll be an MVC first teamer before he leaves, and I believe that his play will elevate the Bears this year and next. Until then, however, I will not name him as a "special" player.

I say special because he is very mature for his years and has ton of potential. He single handedly almost beat the shockers by himself last year in the tournament as a freshman. Pretty impressive against a final 4 team.

I'm biased of course but my take is that at this point Marshall is a very good young player who may become something special. I think his potential became obvious when we played the Shox. The Shox trio of Armstead, Cotton,and Baker last year were as good as any in the country defensively but as previously stated they couldn't do anything with Marshall in that tourney game. And he (Marshall) had a number of games like that.

Austin Ruder has a huge upside too. Thinking about the next 3 years with those 2 as our starting backcourt is enough to make an old Bears fan giddy. The Shockers have the best backcourt in our league but the Bears aren't far behind IMO. That head to head matchup should be very interesting. This year and for the next several years. At least I hope it is.

I wasn't sold on either Marshall or Lusk after last year. the OOC results last year compromised MSU's better results in league play.

I'm starting to gain a lot of respect for Marshall and Lusk. So far this year, it's last year's performance in league play that's showing up and there's a substantial improvement over that level of play. MSU is still a very young team, so the Bears appear to be heading back to an upper-half team and looking like they can stay there for a few years.

If that happens, please try to pay Lusk enough that he maybe stays more than 3 or 4 years. That advice comes from a WSU fan who watched WSU go from back-to-back NCAA appearances directly into the abyss that was the '90's at WSU. Not every new hire is a good hire. The longer you can stay with a proven coach, the better the odds of landing a better coach the next time (I think).

But, back to the original topic. I'm looking forward to the battles between Marshall and VanVleet over the next 3 years. Those should be some great matchups.
