It's when your team isn't really good that you need to spin the better aspects of your team to try and create a better perception than is generally held.
You don't kick programs when they're way down. Picking on SIU just isn't cool. We may lament the fact that Loyola is having a bad year, but we're not going to pile on Loyola's fans by ridiculing the efforts of their team.
Conversely, when your team is on top - you don't need to gloat and repeatedly point out your teams' superiority. It's just not necessary. You don't need to (or want to) be "that guy".
