Bob Lutz of the Wichita Eagle points out that Valley attendance doesn't look very good right now. Hopefully that changes once Valley play starts.

Really hard to read into UNI's numbers since they have had only 2 real D-1 home games. Had 6,000 for VCU but it's a week and a half until we have our next one. A win over Virginia would help fill those seats against Iona but we won't have a home game with the students on campus until Jan 11th against Drake. That game will be a sellout unless both teams completely nosedive from this point forward
[Insert snappy comeback]

We were the last school in the nation to play a d1 home game, and the first of them came a month after our last home game...and wad against a team with the worst rpi in the nation.

As pointed out we now have to wait another week and a half for another one.

Sucks, but that's how it is

Average Home Attendance per School
WSU: 11,148 99% fill of total capacity
Indiana St: 5,820 57% fill of total capacity
Bradley: 5,684 50% fill of total capacity
Illinois St: 4,978 48% fill of total capacity
SIU: 4,576 54% fill of total capacity
Missouri St: 4,442 40% fill of total capacity
UNI: 4,231 63% fill of total capacity
Evansville: 3,839 34% fill of total capacity
Drake: 3,337 46% fill of total capacity
Loyola: 1,683 37% fill of total capacity

Lot of half empty places right now. The one that really stands out is Missouri St as they seem to have really improved, but attendance hasn't yet.

It's pathetic, part of it is the opponent I guess but I hate that excuse. Hopefully things will pickup after the holiday if not I'm not sure what to do.

Put a better product on the floor. For the conference, WSU has done their part. Perhaps UNI and ISUb have as well. The rest of our teams have work to do.

Wasn't ISUb picked second in the league pretty overwhelmingly? Didn't folks think there was a nice season with a great shot at an NCAA bid lining up in Terre Haute? If you go into a season expecting to be Top 3 in the league, and you aren't clearing 60% capacity, maybe product on the floor isn't the problem.

Drake and MSU have won a lot of games here to start the season.

By the way the capacity for Koch Arena is 10,506 which they have sold out for all five games there. They sold 14,356 tickets for the Intrust Bank Arena game which holds 15,000 (these tickets where not included in the season ticket package). That is why they are at 99% capacity even though their average is over what Koch Arena holds.

Sycamores have always had trouble drawing big crowds, too many other options, IU, Purdue, ND, Colts, Pacers, Bears, Bengals. It's just always going to be that way sadly. And TH just has not supported ISU athletics the past 2 decades and before. Win consistently and people will begin to come back.

I know Loyola's attendance has been a source of consternation for MVC fans, but I would not expect it to improve very dramatically right away. There hasn't been a marquee opponent in the non-con this year, and ticket prices are considerably higher than they were just a few years ago (approximately 25-30% higher). However, I expect that the conference season will have a couple of near sellouts and the intensity of MVC play will draw many more fans and students each year.

Last year, home attendance for conference games averaged 2348 (52% of capacity), but that was the first year after the departure of our biggest rival, Butler. We used to routinely draw 4000-4400 for Butler games just three or four years ago. The only conference game with more than 3000 last year was against crosstown conference rival UIC.

In the MVC I expect the intensity, better quality of opposition (especially WSU), and high numbers of Chicago area alums of other schools (principally SIU, ISUr, and Bradley) to bump up the conference attendance in the first year to around 2800 or so. As the students and alumni get into the spirit of MVC competition and the venue becomes more familiar, I'd expect Loyola to routinely average over 3200 for conference games in ensuing years. Being in the MVC should also help with scheduling better non-con competition (most of this year's schedule was set long before we joined), and if Loyola ever challenges for the top half of the league it could bump up close to capacity.
