Kentucky?

Kentucky's roster has significantly more games played, prior to this season, then ISU's. I am not sure if there are is a way to find official numbers of experiences teams, but ISU has to be one of the, if not the least experience team in the country. Kaza Keane and Nick Zeisloft have combined for 56 games played (11 starts), prior to this year. I'd be shocked to find a number less than that.

Not even close!
If you quantify experience by minutes played in D-I basketball games...
Illinois State returned 956 minutes from last year's squad.
Kentucky returned 2,159 minutes from last year's squad.

Redbirds are showing progress and I think we avoid Thursday night.

I believe Kentucky returned three scholarship players plus Hood. Ill State returned two plus Jones. Illinois State is slightly less experienced in D-I, however Ill State did have a lot of JUCO minutes come in. I'll give the edge to Illinois State as less experienced.

ILS is in an interesting position for the conference. I think they can beat anyone any given night, and could see as many as 10 or 11 wins including a clean sweep of the other Illinois teams... but man I hear @Loyola will be tough.

(And yes, I predicted ILS would finish 8th last weekend, and I still think that 6-7 wins are likely, but I can see a strong upside for them)

DePaul isn't anything special so I don't know if a home squeaker is enough to elevate Illinois State out of their Thursday night destiny. Muller will lose a few games on his own. It'll be a close call, but certainly their chances have increased on making the cut with the suckiness of SIU, BU, and Loyola continuing, along with the sudden fall from grace by the Aces.

Progress is relative. I wouldn't have any problem slating ISU ahead of SIU and Loyola, that's seems a given right now, but you still have to pass 2 more teams, probably Bradley and Evansville seem most likely right now, to avoid Thursday, and I doubt anyone outside the Bloomington/Normal area would say that's anything more than speculative today.

Perhaps the Redbird's athleticism gives them just enough edge to pull the occasional upset that gets them there in the end....perhaps.

More and more Drake looks legitimate, with WSU, ISUb, MSU and UNI already there. That would leave 5 teams fighting for 1 spot. Of course, the unexpected can always derail the best intentions, and while injuries can hit anyone at anytime, right now, other issues seem to be quite a bit more frequent when you're wearing a Redbird uni than with any other team.

Congrats to ISUR. Any win is a good win. At this time DePaul isn't very good but they may improve and win some in their league from high RPI teams.
