MVC Power Rankings - updated Dec. 30

Postby MVCfans » December 30th, 2013, 4:49 pm

I contemplated ranking only 7 teams on principle and leaving Loyola, SIU, and Bradley in the "others receiving votes" category after somewhat brutal non-conference performances. Fortunately, Illinois State moved up to #6 or I'd be predicting a possible Thursday night pair of games between the four MVC schools located in Illinois at Arch Madness.

The blurb on UNI could have started out with "Even thought the Panthers only have two victories over teams with winning records..." The blurb on MSU could have started out with "Even though the Bears have only two victories over teams with winning records..."

Interesting choice of emphasis.

It might have sounded a bit redundant if I had said the same thing for three consecutive schools. I think the focus for UNI is their win over VCU. Plus, I was trying to explain why I had MSU 4th (SOS) even though their record is much better than UNI's.

That's impressive. WSU has more wins over teams with winning records (7) than MSU, UNI, and Drake have combined. Also the same over top 100 RPI teams as those three and Indiana State combined (6).

WSU has 6 of the Valley's 15 wins over top 100 RPI teams. No other team has more than two.

I agree with the only rankings that matter (1-6). Drake and Missouri State are tough to rank given their SOS, but MoSt has only lost to top 50 RPI teams, even if they haven't really beat anyone. Indiana State seems to be the second best team in the conference. Illinois State is raw but much more talented than the junk teams. UNI has had a crazy SOS, and they've mostly lost on the road. And Maryland isn't going to finish as a 134 RPI like they are now.

These are kinda funny stats since the knock on WSU is that "they haven't played anybody".

Unfortunately, that nuggets holds more truth for what's upcoming in conference play.
