If Wichita goes undefeated do they get a #1 seed

It has always been tough for teams not from the traditional power conferences to get 1 seeds, do the Shockers get a #1 seed if they get through the Valley at 21-0? Do they get one otherwise depending on other teams?

No. Their body of work won't be good enough due to the weak nature of the MVC.

Yes. If WSU was 34-0 on Selection Sunday, at the very least by default, they'd be a No.1 seed. Let's not go sandbagging here, Snaggletooth.

But WSU isn't going undefeated, so this is moot.

Impossible to answer. Absolutely dependent on what the other top teams do.

Gonzaga got to the 1 line last year through weakness of other teams, not their own strength. Wichita would need a similar scenario.

This is the only correct answer. If Ohio State, Wisconsin, Arizona, or Syracuse end up with only a couple losses Wichita State will not jump them even if they go undefeated. If they are all carrying 4-6 losses, then an undefeated team could snag a #1 seed.

It also depends on what the teams on Wichita State's schedule do. If Tennessee winds up in the Top 3 of the SEC, SLU wins the A10, and BYU is a tournament team then Wichita State will get more slack. If all of them fail, Wichita State's schedule may be not be good enough.

Gonzaga also wasn't undefeated, and hasn't been beyond the Sweet 16 this century, IIRC. WSU should have a little more credibility coming off the Final Four.

I don't think that changes your point, but there are significant differences.

Anybody talking about an undefeated season before Valley play has started is fantasizing. Wait until you win the first 12-13 Valley games.

Amen. WSU will NOT go undefeated. Period. The conference is too tough and Gregg Marshall is in over his head in this conference.
