Before knocking any attendance for a team in Illinois yesterday, one should check out what the weather was. We were in the middle of hellova winter storm. I know chi-town was bottlenecked with the storm and downstate the state police was telling people to stay off of the road. Sub-zero temperatures, snow of anywhere from 8 to 12 inches and the wind blowing in excess of 30 mph.

If any further proof is needed, check out what happened to the SIU team bus. I wonder who made that brilliant call that could have put peoples lives at risk.

He's dependent on each individual winning their battle with the guy guarding them and does little to tilt the field. He does seem to have a good grasp of what his players strengths are, but just doesn't help them much. Our offense is based on a lot of people standing while someone else dribbles a lot; a whole lot of both.

I didn't know if that's how the Bears have been playing or if they adopted that strategy vs LUC because we have been beaten one on one over and over on defense.

BEARZ77 wrote:Defensively I have not figured out what we want to do for 6 years now as Lusk seems to have just continued what Zo implemented. Collectively we don't pressure, jump passing lanes, front the post, trap or basically try to take anything away that I can tell.

I've never been a big fan of the press that was used Sunday. Seemed fairly half-hearted. To me, if you are going to zone press, you have to be active and try to force turnovers. They seemed to be going with a low energy press just to kill some time.

Thanks for the interesting post!

Same for springfield where the lady bears outdrew both teams.

What two games should you have lost ?

What is the problem with Gavin ? I'm reading on your board that "Gavin will have to earn his time". Is he giving the coach problems or ???

Hopefully - the Loyola loss is not the start of a downward spiral for you guys.

SEMO.....threw in a banked three at the buzzer to win after blowing a huge lead and all momentum.
Redbirds....Got way behind but rallied to get it to overtime...barely.

No one seems to know on Gavin except the "he hasn't earned playing time" comments.
He's gone from the Frosh last year who had the most potential to not playing at all in a very short time. If he did something, why the playing time dropped gradually doesn't add up. ?????

I am actually surprised we had 1000+ yesterday. If you haven't been watching the news, the Midwest (particularly Chicago) is in the midst of a huge snowstorm and subzero temps. Schools closed and the city is basically shut down.

As for the makeup of the crowd, definitely majority LUC fans. Probably a 70/30 split. Maroon is the main color of both teams so you cannot use that as a barometer.

Looking forward to our first season in the MVC despite the general anti-Loyola feeling of the members. Hope we can pull off some upsets and maybe, just maybe avoid a Thursday game. Next two games vs. SIU and ISUr will go a long way in showing where we stand.

He's right. We should have lost the 2 games prior to Loyola. Against SEMO we blew a 20 point lead and won on a last second shot. Against ISUr we played pretty bad for 3/4 of the game before turning it on in the last 10 minutes. We've really kind of sucked the last 3 games.

Gavin has definitely been in the doghouse. Lusk has been unhappy with his rebounding and effort defensively. We need him to get it together. Mvouika too.

To me, it is pretty obvious that either he isn't putting out the effort in practice or he isn't doing something that was asked of him in practice (playing D or rebounding maybe). He can score, and at 6-7, 215lbs, he should be an effective stretch 4 for the Bears. The fact that he is only playing 12 minutes, but averaging 5 points speaks volumes to what he can and can't do IMO.

Hey! Looks like my supposition based on stats was correct! Gavin did have that reputation in high school. It doesn't look like he's shaken it yet.

From the view on the TV I must have been looking at the visitors seats. Don't think I could count 30 folks on that side of the court---and several were wearing maroon sweats with the head logBEAR o or BEARS spelled out.
