The Valley as a whole is lacking good post play.

WSU: Carter is still improving. Lufile is okay, but not much more productive than Drake's bigs. Coleby is disappointing.
Indiana State: Gant is nice offensively, but averages just 4.3 boards per game. Odum leads the team in caroms.
UNI: Seth Tuttle is leading the league in rebounding, but was totally shut down in Wichita.
MSU: Kirk and McCullough both average less than 4 rebounds and a combined 1.6 blocks per contest
Drake: Van Deest and Jensen are both 5 point, 5 rebound guys, but average less than 1.5 bpg. Probably the second best post combo in the league after WSU.
Bradley: Pickett is nice, but is only 6-6. Prosser isn't good. Taylor is a promising freshman.
Evansville: Mock is a good young player. Nobody else.
SIU: nada
Loyola: Matt O'Leary? Doesn't scare me.
Illinois State: I like Lynch. No one else.

How would they lose the automatic bid if WSU lost? [/quote]

Not if WSU lost the conference tourney---if the MVC lost WSU to another conference!!!! Would not really lose the MVC automatic invite, but quality of MVC BB (without WSU or CU) would be very suspect.

Just in case WSU were to move, if I was IN State I would seriously be casting feelers to more eastern conferences.

Quit trying to live in the past. Those teams are long gone from the conference

Try reading this thread title again to yourself real slowly, champ. I'll bet you figure out the point eventually.

Fair evaluation conference wide! I'd still say the best two big in the conference are Tuttle and Gant based on their ability to put the ball in the basket at an efficient clip. Carter can get there. Has some work to do if you ask me. Pickett probably is my third best big at this point. Conference lacks solid bigs. Wichita State probably has the best stable of bigs with ISUB and Drake right behind them.

Tuttle looked BAD against WSU but that, after seeing him for 2.5 seasons now, is an abberation more than anything else.

One bad game does not make or break a player. Tuttle is a fine big man in this league. If I was a betting man I would bet on him having a great game the second time around against the shockers.

I think Tuttle being shut down is a product of WSUs size and athleticism combined with no second option in the post for the Panthers. It was too easy for the WSU post and Early to double in the post as there was no other big that could demand the ball near the basket.

They did not double the post. They stood him up, Tuttle stood around for 3 seconds, and a guard dug and either made him get rid of the ball, or took the ball.
