Best 2nd, 3rd or 4th Post Season Tournament

Postby KC MVC FAN » January 13th, 2014, 4:14 pm

Four post season D1 BB tournaments:

NCAA: 68 teams (36 at large plus 31 auto invites to conference tournament Champs, plus 1 invite to the Ivy conference season champ-no Ivy league tournament).

NIT: 32 at large invitations.

CBI (College BB Invitational): 16 at large invites.

CBT (College BB Tournament): 16 at large invites.

So, after the NCAA which is the best tournament?
--Why??
--National Recognition?
--Prestige?
--Level of competition?
--Other?

Is this a serious question? WOOOOOOOW! But to answer it NCAA, NIT, no one really cares about the other 2. The other 2 I think you only play if you are rebuilding otherwise just decline like some teams do. NIT you still get some recognition mainly if you win it but it's basically a tournament for teams who may have had some signature wins or did decent but who didnt do well enough to get in the NCAA. The other 2 is just if you had a winning season.

Definitely agree with last poster.....

NCAA
NIT

WTF Cares

NIT invites all the conference champs who didn't win conference tourney and didn't get at large to NCAA.

The other two tournaments are similar to those bowl games that match two 6-6 teams in football.

For the nitpicky, the integrity of the CIT tournament is slightly greater than the CBI, as <.500 teams don't actually get into the CIT and they specifically avoid power conference schools.

Although one would argue for the MVC, they should care to be associated more with the CBI than the CIT, just in case those tournaments start to take off.

But this is all minutia.

What eve, r but I see one or two MVC teams each year in the CBI or CBT. Think one or both tourneys have been won by a MVC team at least once!

I guess the question is why accept a bid for CBI or CBT. If there is minimal prestige or recognition, is there money involved?

It is getting to be like FB bowl games.. Used to be 4. Now there must be 30.

NCAA, NIT

Anything else is simply extra practices for your underclassmen. You should play them for this fact but don't stroke off to any wins in them.

As some one said, WGF, especially if there is no money.

Don't think my local big city newspaper even carries the box scores for CBI an CBT. May have a couple of small stories towards the finish of the NIT.

But wait, listen to the fans and local media for the crows and chest thumps when some one gets an invite, then a win, lo and behold a championship.

Nuff said!!!

You know, I saw this thread and knew it would suck.

I'm still surprised by how much it ended up sucking.
