Worst official that does Valley games

Postby Valleyball » January 18th, 2014, 8:43 am

Watching last nights Bradley SIU game made me think about this. Because they did a terrible job. I am not one who usually talks about the officiating (I know everyone complaining about refs says that), It is just part of the game. But I wish there was a way to weed out a few.

It is hard to pick between Pollard and the other guy who was on the crew last night. I say Pollard is the worst. But I have real problems with refs worrying about the crowd unless they are throwing stuff or on the court.I guess Mark Stuart is his name.

Some mention of the ref last night on Bradley boards (Hate to link BFans but I will. Besides this just a bunch of poor calls.

Can't link Bfans but it is the Mark Scott thread.

After 50 plus years of spectating, can't say I have ever seen any sporting event won or lost due to bad officiating!!! Bad officiating in any one event effects both teams equally!

Any call against your team is a bad call--in your opinion!

What a ridiculous statement. Of course games are won and lost due to the officiating. Officials are human beings. They make mistakes. Sometimes those mistakes come at crucial times in a game and games are won or lost accordingly. It's just part of the game. But it's also why officials performance is reviewed. And should be.

I will disagree. In Drake's last game at the old Vet's Auditorium...Drake led Illinois State by 1.....ISU came down and missed....ball hits the ground without being rebounded by anybody....both teams scramble for the loose ball.....the buzzer sounds......Drake wins.....everybody is leaving the floor....Bob Bender (ISU coach) is frantically signalling that there was a foul....official (Turlington) agrees....two free throws for ISU are good....ISU wins.

Replays showed that the "foul", and it was a very questionable call in a loose ball situation; occurred at least a full second after the buzzer sounded. This was before instant replay but couldn't be reversed.

In this situation, I would say the game was won (ISU) or lost (DU) due to poor officiating.

Now, you can certainly say that Drake shouldn't have put itself in a situation where a poor call could cost the game; and that's true. But, you can't argue that, in this situation, a bad call didn't decide the gae.

My answer to the original question is Gerry Pollard, followed closely by Paul Janssen.

Worst ever was Willie Sanchez, for those old enough to remember him.

Pollard is always very good to the Bears. Probably why many don't care for him.

Glad to see Pollard is off to an early lead, my vote goes to him as well.
